Flexible scheduling based on center needs and availability Position Summary Montessori Children's Center is seeking caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Assistant Teachers to join our team. Assistant Teachers work alongside Lead Teachers to provide a safe, nurturing, respectful, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. The Assistant Teacher plays an important role in supporting the daily classroom experience, helping maintain a well-organized environment, assisting with children's routines and care, and creating positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers. Essential Responsibilities Assist the Lead Teacher with the daily operation of the classroom. Provide attentive, nurturing, and responsive care to children. Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment. Follow all Michigan childcare licensing requirements, center policies, and health and safety procedures. Maintain appropriate classroom ratios and actively supervise children at all times. Complete required name-to-face attendance and supervision procedures. Assist children with daily routines, including meals, snacks, diapering, toileting, handwashing, dressing, rest time, and transitions. Encourage children to develop independence and age-appropriate self-help skills. Support developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences. Assist with Montessori-inspired practical life activities, sensory experiences, movement, language, art, and exploration. Encourage positive social interactions, communication, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. Follow the Lead Teacher's classroom plans and direction while contributing positively to the classroom environment. Observe children and communicate relevant developmental, behavioral, or classroom concerns to the Lead Teacher. Assist with maintaining accurate classroom documentation and daily records. Maintain a clean and sanitary classroom by helping sanitize toys, tables, chairs, shelves, and other classroom materials and surfaces. Assist with classroom preparation, organization, transitions, and closing responsibilities. Work cooperatively with Lead Teachers, other Assistant Teachers, administration, and support staff. Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, and coworkers. Attend required staff meetings, professional development, and trainings. Support the mission, values, and philosophy of Montessori Children's Center. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required. CDA or coursework in Early Childhood Education is a plus. Must meet Michigan childcare licensing requirements for the position. Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification. Ability to complete required annual health and safety training. Dependable, patient, nurturing, and willing to learn. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team. Ability to remain calm and professional in a busy childcare environment. Genuine interest in supporting children and their development. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and safely carry young children when necessary. Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, squat, and move frequently throughout the classroom. Ability to actively supervise and respond quickly to children's needs. Ability to assist with diapering, toileting, feeding, cleaning, transitions, and other routine childcare responsibilities. Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities with children.
Employment Opportunities Full-Time:
