Montessori Community Assistant Teacher Job Description We have two openings for this role. One opening is full time in our Pre-Primary classroom (ages 15 mo to 3 years), and the second opening will float between our 3 classrooms as needed.

General Description:

The School employs the Assistant Teacher for a specified period of time as noted in the contract. He/She is expected to follow all Mountain Pathways School Personnel Policies and Procedures, embody the mission and vision of MPS, Montessori philosophy, and to fulfill the terms of his/her contract and job description. Each Assistant Teacher is expected to present a positive attitude and be supportive of the school and other faculty, both inside and outside the school.

Classroom Responsibilities:

Assist the Lead Pre-Primary Teacher in the 15 mo to 3 year old classroom, or float between the three classrooms as needed throughout the day. Duties include, but are not limited to: Prepare classroom prior to morning arrival of students Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the classroom Perform mandatory health checks as students arrive Maintain a peaceful environment for the children Protect the Lead Teacher and individual student's concentration when an individual lesson is being given Disinfect and clean classroom throughout the day and after dismissal Set up rest mats for nap time Help students get settled for sleep during nap time (rub backs, etc) Meet weekly with Lead Teacher to discuss classroom plans, operations, and adjustments needed. Check supplies and equipment daily to ensure a prepared environment

Children :

Work with individual children or small groups as requested by the Lead Teacher Act as a positive role model Maintain a peaceful presence with the children Support the development of each child's sense of self-esteem, initiative and independence. Assist with changing pull-ups and toileting Teaching Performance Assumes responsibility for the classroom and children in the absence of the Lead Teacher Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and other staff members to maintain a safe environment for children Meet regularly with the Lead Teacher and when requested by the Director to discuss weekly progress and responsibilities Assist in providing appropriate learning experiences for all ages and ability levels within the class, as directed Actively supervises children indoors and outdoors. No child should ever be left unsupervised either inside or outside the classroom. Be consistently positive and impartial in dealing with children Maintain discipline in classroom through respect, adhering to ground rules, redirection, and logical consequences Professional Responsibilities Complete Montessori Assistant Training program, provided by MPS Participate in all faculty/staff meetings, parent and school functions as required by Lead Teacher and Director Attend professional development workshops as requested by the school administration Meet assigned school responsibilities Is professionally ethical Respond as a team member in team situations Interact positively with staff and faculty Accept administration requests and suggestions Maintain professional relationships with parents Personal Qualities Moves gracefully Dresses appropriately Speaks with a quiet, well-modulated voice Models correct pronunciation and usage of language Uses neither rough nor excessively affectionate physical handling of children Exemplifies grace and courtesy Respects adults, children and property Impact The teacher is the most critical element in a strong Montessori program.
