Job Description

Overview Join our dedicated team as a Special Education Paraprofessional and make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs. In this vital role, you will provide essential classroom support, assist with curriculum implementation, and foster a positive learning environment for children with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and behavioral challenges. Your energetic and compassionate approach will help promote student success, independence, and confidence. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with educators and specialists to support every student's unique educational journey. Responsibilities Assist teachers in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs, ensuring compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and other educational standards. Support classroom management by maintaining a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment for students with special education needs. Provide behavioral support through positive behavior management techniques and behavior intervention strategies for students with behavioral disorders or autism spectrum disorders. Offer physical assistance and classroom support to students requiring mobility aid or other accommodations, including basic math, literacy education, and early childhood curriculum activities. Utilize communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) or other augmentative communication methods to facilitate effective interaction with students who have communication challenges. Collaborate closely with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement lesson plans that meet individual student goals. Support students during classroom activities, including childcare routines, preschool or toddler care, Montessori-based activities, or specialized curriculum in private school settings. Qualifications Prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities in educational or childcare settings is highly preferred. Knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education practices is essential. Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges is a strong plus. Familiarity with classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies for special education populations. Ability to handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professionalism at all times. Strong communication skills both written and verbal to effectively collaborate with team members and communicate with students. Basic math skills and literacy knowledge to assist in lesson planning and instructional activities. Experience working in private schools or Montessori environments is advantageous but not required. $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
