Job Summary We are seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic After-School Program Assistant to join our school-age child care program. The Program Assistant will work as part of a team to provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for school-age children before and/or after the regular school day. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, is patient and responsible, and can help create fun, age-appropriate activities while maintaining a safe and structured environment. Responsibilities Provide active and attentive supervision of children at all times. Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming program environment. Support daily after-school routines, including arrival, dismissal, snack, homework, recreation, and transitions. Plan and participate in age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, sports, STEM activities, reading, and other enrichment opportunities. Encourage positive social interactions, cooperation, independence, and respectful behavior. Assist children with homework and other school-related activities when appropriate. Follow the program's behavior management and child guidance policies. Communicate appropriately and professionally with children, families, teachers, and program staff. Assist with attendance, sign-in/sign-out procedures, and other required program documentation. Follow all health, safety, emergency, and supervision procedures. Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and follow OCFS regulations and program policies. Report accidents, injuries, incidents, or concerns to the appropriate supervisor promptly. Participate in required staff meetings, orientations, and professional development. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and program information. Perform other duties related to the safe and effective operation of the program as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 16 years of age , consistent with New York State school-age child care requirements. Experience working with school-age children is preferred but not required. Previous experience in child care, education, recreation, camp, youth programs, or a related setting is a plus. Must demonstrate maturity, dependability, patience, good judgment, and the ability to work effectively with children. Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults. Must be able to work as part of a team. Must be able to meet the physical and supervision requirements of working with school-age children. OCFS Requirements Employment is subject to applicable New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) requirements, including required background clearances and other personnel documentation. Selected candidates must complete required OCFS-approved training and program orientation within the applicable timeframes. OCFS regulations also require ongoing staff training; school-age programs must ensure staff receive required training and maintain appropriate personnel records. A valid CPR/First Aid certification is preferred. The program must have at least one staff member with valid CPR and First Aid certification present during operating hours. Schedule This is an after-school position , with typical hours occurring during the afternoon and early evening.

Typical Schedule:

Monday-Friday Approximately [1:30-5:30] Additional hours may be available for school breaks, professional development days, or to work in our daycare in the morning.
