Job Description

This is a 5.0 hour per day, 180 days per year, Paraeducator/Library Paraeducator position at Lake Stickney Elementary School. Anticipated start date is October 12, 2026. Hours for this position are 10:45 a.m.

  • 3:45 p.

m. The successful candidate will work directly with the librarian in support of the library.

Tasks may include:

shelving, check-in/out of materials, bagging and delivering books on campus, etc. Use of technology will be expected. Additionally, this position includes 30 minutes of bus supervision and 1.5 hours of resource room support working with students who have challenges with learning or social emotional goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Basic WA State Paraeducator qualifications and experience working with children.

Preferred Qualifications:

Library experience working with school aged children (5-12).

JOB SUMMARY

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, assistance for students riding the bus, and perform crossing guard duties before and after school. May assist with implementation of special education services for students i.e., IEP goals, medical assistance, physical support and personal care.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment. Under the teacher's direction, administer multiple student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic and test data, update student records, and assess student progress. Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff. Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals. Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials. Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or disabled children. Provide physical assistance for students with special needs such as feeding, toileting, proper lifting and positioning of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment; assist students with the use specific equipment related to their disability (e.g., materials, assistive technology, visual aids). Track and dispense authorized student medications. Perform crossing guard duties before and after school to supervise and monitor students. Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well-being. Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs. Comply with District Policies. Maintain consistent presence at assigned work site and regularly work hours specified. May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building and student needs. Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation. Desire and aptitude to work with students. Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions. Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment. Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students. Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required. Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning. Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.

Education/Certification:

Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Meet one of the following requirements: Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council, or Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment. Pearson's Paraprofessional Assessment. The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program. Depending on assignment, may be required to complete behavior modification programs, including safe physical restraining techniques and/or other training as required.

JOB SUMMARY

This position performs a wide variety of tasks under the direction of the principal and librarian to facilitate the efficient operation of the school library. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with the delivery of instructional and non-instructional activities for students individually or in groups, student supervision, maintaining the physical appearance of the library and display areas, maintaining books and other library materials, and operating a variety of library equipment to provide information and support for staff and students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Facilitates the operation of the school library in an independent capacity while coordinating with a certificated librarian; assists students in use of equipment and resources; maintains security of materials and equipment; maintains the physical appearance of library and display areas. Operates a variety of office equipment used for library instruction to prepare, duplicate, collate and distribute materials for students and staff. Provides clerical support related to maintaining records, files, lists, catalogs. Shelves books and completes backups. Notifies student/teacher/parent of late books and/or fines and follows through on a regular basis for returned books and/or replacement payments. Order materials in consultation with the principal and librarian for student and teacher library use. Locates materials to support student and teacher use, activities and special projects in consultation with the principal and librarian. Assists students individually with locating materials and utilizing other library resources and services. Supervises and monitors students in library, models appropriate behavior, and behavioral rules to promote and maintain appropriate student behavior. Assists in promoting effective communication with students, staff and parents. Respects confidentiality of information. Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs. Comply with District Policies. Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified. Such other related job duties as assigned by the principal(s).

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. Ability to apply knowledge of technology to media centers, i.e. computer skills, word processing, circulation software, on-line database and Internet searching. Knowledge and skill in library organization and procedures. Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning in the library. Ability to operate a variety of computers, audio-visual and other equipment related to the facilitation of library operations. Demonstrated ability to physically transport AV materials, equipment, store print and AV curricular materials throughout the school facility. Knowledge and ability to successfully use basic math and write routine documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. Demonstrated skill and ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
