The 21st Century Tutor provides academic support and mentorship to students, helping them build confidence, strengthen study skills, and achieve success in school. This role combines direct tutoring with collaboration, recordkeeping, and youth development to positively impact student growth.

Monday - Friday Job Responsibilities

• Provide academic assistance individually and in small groups, helping students strengthen study skills, improve confidence, and stay motivated in their learning.
• Identify students experiencing difficulties and offer encouragement, alternatives, and strategies to reduce anxiety and foster a positive attitude toward learning.
• Assist the School Liaison with preparation for tutoring sessions, including reviewing class material, predicting test questions, and developing learning resources.
• Track, document, and maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, providing feedback to staff, parents, and administrators as needed.
• Serve as a positive role model by integrating youth development practices, acknowledging student achievements, attending training sessions, and adhering to all YWCA, afterschool, and school district procedures. Performance Expectations

• Struggling students show measurable improvement in participation, confidence, and academic outcomes.
• Tutoring sessions are well-prepared, aligned with classroom instruction, and effectively support student learning.
• Records are complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner to support program reporting and decision-making.
• Students view the tutor as a trusted mentor, and the tutor demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and compliance with organizational policies. Qualifications

Education:

College Degree or licensed teacher (preferred); Educational Aide Permit issued by Ohio Department of Education (ODE).

Experience:

Experience working with school-age children.

Proven ability to work effectively with staff, parents, school personnel, and other professionals. Meets academic standards for tutoring and demonstrates competence in analyzing student's academic needs and effectively provide solutions and support in assisting the student to reach their academic potential. Understanding of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Child Care Licensing Rules and Ohio Step Up to Quality initiatives. Effective organizational and communication skills. Core Competencies
