Job Description

Head of the Class Academic Center is dedicated to helping students improve their academic performance. We feel strongly that the focus should be on meeting the needs of each child in ways that enhance their performance, allowing them to attain the level of established standards rather than lowering the standards to their level of performance. Our goal is to give them the tools to function successfully in mainstream society, teaching them to overcome the obstacles as opposed to seeking ways around them. Our services include private tutoring in a variety of subject areas, private or group instruction for ACT/SAT preparation, summer workshops, college and career counseling, and programs for a variety of learning differences. We are looking for applicants proficient in English and Language Arts courses. Understanding of the AP/IB course curriculum is important in addition to SAT and ACT test understanding. Some tutors may be given the opportunity to tutor standardized test material once they show proficiency in each subject. Experience teaching or tutoring in the education field is also recommended. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring sessions. Teach English/language arts to students at various grade levels. Assist students with homework, study skills, writing, reading comprehension, and test preparation. Prepare students for the ACT and SAT, with an emphasis on verbal, reading, and writing sections. Adapt lessons to meet each student's individual learning style and academic goals. Communicate student progress and recommend strategies for continued improvement. Required Qualifications Experience teaching or tutoring students in elementary, middle school, and high school. Strong background in English/language arts instruction. Experience preparing students for the ACT and SAT. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Reliable, organized, and professional. Preferred Qualifications Experience tutoring additional subjects such as math, science, social studies, or foreign languages. Experience assisting students with college application preparation, including essays and the admissions process. Teaching certification or degree in education or a related field is a plus. If you believe, as we do, that our children are the future, submit your resume and application today and join our HOTC team!
