Job Description

Availability varies Mon-Fri 3pm-11pm; Sat 10am-8pm; Sun 1pm-8pm. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Director or Senior Program Director, the Gym Monitor will monitor and regulate our basketball gym area, pick-up basketball games, racquetball area, and functional training area. This position must perform program responsibilities in accordance with the policies, goals and mission set forth by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitor and regulate basketball gym, consisting of half-court pick-up basketball games and half-court general shoot-around and other youth sports or recreation play. Monitor and regulate Pickleball to ensure policy is being followed by all members at all times. Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive, safe and nurturing environment. Follow strength training and nutritional guidelines of the YMCA of the USA. Promote the "YMCA Story" with all involved in the program. Monitor all areas of the gym area, including basketball court, Pickleball courts, and functional training area. Maintain clean centers and help to monitor cleaning maintenance crew. Follow accident reporting procedures and policies. Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff. Submit key indicator data as needed to supervisor and perform other duties to achieve group and personal goals. Maintain a clean basketball gym at all times and clean additional equipment as directed by supervisor. Seek to learn members' names and welcome them personally. Attend all required staff meetings, both departmental and branch/association level. Be a team player and assist co-workers in other departments when needed. Refrain from diagnosing injuries, offering medical advice and dispensing or endorsing any and all commercial health products especially nutritional supplements, vitamins, performance enhancing substances and pain relievers. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have knowledge of basketball rules and regulations. Will need to be computer literate, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite products. Certifications required within the first week of hire: Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications. Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic lifesaving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED. Must have Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment. Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions. Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines. Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required. Incumbent must be able to stand for long periods of time, as well as be able to use keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils. Uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
