Job Description

Position Summary:
We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Entry-Level Truss Designer to join our growing team. This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for structural design and an eagerness to learn. Under the guidance of experienced truss designers and engineers, you will use Alpine software to develop truss layouts for a variety of residential, commercial, and light industrial projects. This is a great opportunity for those starting their career in drafting or design, even with limited prior experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
Design Support:
Assist in designing and drafting wood truss systems using Alpine software based on architectural and engineering plans.
Blueprint Reading:
Interpret construction documents including blueprints, structural drawings, and architectural layouts to determine truss specifications.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with senior designers, engineers, and production staff to ensure accurate, code-compliant designs.
Load Calculations:
Perform basic span, load, and material calculations with guidance from senior staff.
Documentation:
Generate detailed truss drawings, material takeoffs, and production files for use in manufacturing and on-site construction.
Code Compliance:
Ensure all designs meet local building codes and internal quality standards, with oversight and review from experienced team members.
Training & Development:
Participate in company-sponsored training to improve design skills, software proficiency, and understanding of structural systems.
Communication:
Coordinate with internal teams to clarify project requirements and resolve design issues as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Coursework or an associate degree in drafting, architecture, construction technology, or engineering is helpful but not required.
Experience:
No prior work experience necessary. Familiarity with drafting concepts or design software (via coursework, internships, or personal projects) is a plus.
Technical Aptitude:
Interest in learning structural software (such as Alpine) and design principles.
Basic Understanding:
Familiarity with geometry, construction terminology, and structural concepts is an advantage.
Software Skills:
Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and open to learning new platforms.

Physical Requirements:
Sit for long periods at a desk - 8 hours or more. Lift and move up to 25 pounds. Communicate and hear, both in person and by telephone or Zoom. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls. Reach with hands and arms. Possess close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

$40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
