ADM has been in business since 1983, and we're looking to add a CAD Designer to our team. This is a hands-on technical role at the center of our shop. You'll take customer prints and requirements and turn them into manufacturable parts: clean models, drawings, and flat patterns that feed our laser, punch, and press brake operations. You don't need years of fabrication experience to start, and you don't need to know our specific software. Our workflow runs across several specialized manufacturing programs, and we train every hire on them no matter their background. What you do need is a genuinely strong command of CAD fundamentals. We won't be teaching you how CAD works. We'll be teaching you how our tools work. You'll spend real time on the shop floor early on, learning our equipment and processes firsthand. As you build manufacturing judgment, you'll take on more responsibility for design review and process ownership. Amada Fiber Lasers, Tube Laser, TruPunch CNC, Trumpf press brakes with offline programming, cobot and laser welding, CNC machining A real growth track: this role is built to expand from production CAD into independent design review $23.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on experience and skill level Employer covers 75% of healthcare premium for employee (after 90 days) Simple IRA retirement plan (after 6 months) Year-end bonus based on company and individual performance Paid time off per NJ law, paid company holidays, and a bonus day program Steady day shift, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday Small-shop culture: most of our team has been here for years What You'll Do Build 3D models and production drawings from customer prints and requirements (SolidWorks) Create flat patterns and bend programs for our press brake operations Support punch and laser programming, growing into layout and tooling work Serve as backup capacity for CAM/nesting during peak demand Add shop-oriented detail to drawings so parts run right the first time Maintain clean, organized file and revision structures, and keep job records current in our shop management software (attaching drawings, programs, and layouts as you produce them) Own the engineering thread of individual jobs from quote support through production What We're Looking For Strong command of CAD fundamentals: modeling strategy, drawing standards, and the concepts that carry across packages. SolidWorks is ideal, but demonstrated skill in any major parametric CAD package matters more than which one. A solid general understanding of manufacturing and design for manufacturability Genuine curiosity about how things are made and willingness to spend real time on the shop floor Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and customer prints Strong critical thinking and attention to detail Organized, accountable, and able to chase loose ends to completion without being told Clear communicator, comfortable working with the office, the floor, and customers or vendors Reliable commute to Nutley, NJ 07110 (or relocating before start date) Nice to Have (Not Required) Hands-on fabrication experience: lasers, press brakes, punches, or welding Engineering degree or equivalent technical education CAM/nesting experience for laser cutting or punching Experience in a small or mid-sized custom fabrication shop A Path Forward In your first months, you'll produce accurate models, drawings, and flat patterns that need minimal correction. Over the following year, your manufacturing judgment earns the trust to check and approve work independently. That's a role that doesn't exist in the shop today, and one we're building this position to grow into.
