RESPONSIBILITIES
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Thermal Control Systems Engineer in Spring, TX.
Summary:
The Thermal Control Systems Engineer serves as the technical bridge between thermal engineering and firmware development, ensuring thermal control strategies are accurately implemented, validated, and released in production systems. This role translates thermal requirements into firmware-ready specifications, supports controls development, and leads integration, testing, tuning, and issue resolution across the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Translate thermal requirements, test data, and system behavior into firmware requirements, control logic, calibration data, and acceptance criteria
  • Collaborate with thermal, firmware, BIOS, CPLD, BMC, and hardware teams to define, implement, and validate thermal control solutions
  • Own thermal controls requirements, traceability, and supporting development artifacts throughout the product lifecycle
  • Develop and execute validation plans covering normal operation, fault conditions, performance limits, and recovery scenarios
  • Perform hands-on testing, data analysis, troubleshooting, and control tuning to ensure compliance with thermal and system requirements
  • Investigate and resolve integration issues involving firmware, hardware, sensors, controls, and thermal performance
  • Coordinate development activities, validation schedules, release milestones, and field issue resolution
  • Support the development of tools, processes, and architectures used to define and manage server thermal control systems
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
  • Experience in thermal engineering, controls integration, embedded systems, firmware validation, electronics cooling, or a similar field
  • Experience validating, tuning, or troubleshooting control algorithms on physical hardware
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, sensors, actuators, and control systems
  • Knowledge of engineering and programming tools such as Python, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, or similar
  • Strong communication, technical documentation, and project coordination skills
  • Ability to interpret firmware logs, schematics, thermal data, and test results to solve complex cross-functional issues
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with server thermal management, embedded firmware, management controllers, or electronics cooling systems
  • Experience with Agile development, version control, automated testing, reliability engineering, or FMEA
  • Familiarity with model-based design, hardware-in-the-loop testing, digital twins, or advanced control methods
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as I-C, SMBus, PMBus, CAN, Modbus, BACnet, or Ethernet The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role.
We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future. We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
