Torus Construction Group is a developer and builder of ground-up residential multi-family housing. We build our own projects, primarily in New York City, from raw land through certificate of occupancy. Our office is in Lakewood, NJ. We're a small, growing team. NYC ground-up work is demanding, and we're looking for people who are precise enough to enjoy it.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Lead Project Engineer is a full-time, on-site role in our Lakewood, NJ office, supporting projects in New York City. It is an office-based position, not a field superintendent role, though you'll visit sites as needed. The heart of this job is technical detail work. Reading a set of drawings closely enough to find what's missing between the architectural, structural, and MEP sets. Looking at a subcontractor's proposal and seeing what he didn't price. Checking a shop drawing against the spec and the RFI log and catching the problem before it reaches the field. Day to day, that means owning the submittal register end to end — reviewing shop drawings and product submittals, routing them to the architect and engineers of record, driving them to a stamped disposition, and understanding what comes back well enough to explain it. You'll write, route, and close RFIs, and ideally find the conflicts before a subcontractor hits them. You'll keep every party working off the current drawing revision and move CAD backgrounds and markups between design consultants and trades. On the procurement side, you'll issue RFPs by trade, chase bidders, and level proposals line by line — finding the scope gaps, exclusions, and quantities that don't match the drawings — then bring a recommendation with a number and what you'd negotiate. You'll also work with our expediters on DOB NOW filings and permits, track permit status and expirations, coordinate special inspections, onboard subcontractors (W9s, COIs, executed contracts), and handle daily correspondence with architects, engineers, expediters, inspectors, and subcontractors. As projects advance, the role carries them through MEP rough-in coordination, long-lead procurement, controlled inspections, punch, and
