As a Job Captain, you will be working as part of close-knit Project Teams consisting of Architects, Engineers, Designers, Project Managers and Coordinators, and BIM Technicians. We are looking for applicants who are punctual, organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, professional, willing to help grow the company, and are a good match with the rest of our staff and our company culture. Currently we are looking for someone who is flexible in their availability to start off part-time to get a feel for things for approximately 3 months, and after a mutual review we will potentially hire for full-time. RESPONSIBILITIES
Work in a multidisciplinary Design Team environment to develop Construction Documents that consist of Construction Drawings and Specifications. Knowledge of drafting and mark-up practices and standards. Navigate AutoCAD/Revit drawings in 2025 format or newer. Exercise good verbal and written technical communication. Participate in company meetings and client outreach. Interface with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, utility representatives and commissioners, or other entities to discuss design as required for project success. Participate in the creation of Cost Estimates, Requests for Proposals, and other bid documents and other marketing materials. Track billable and nonbillable time. Each project may be unique and pose its own challenges, but typically a Job Captain works across multiple disciplines under the supervision of a Project Engineer to complete the following tasks: 1. Lead the development, organization, and production of construction-document packages. 2. Support utility and permit review and approval of permit drawings. 3. Establish and maintain project drawing, BIM/CAD, file-management, and document-control standards. 4. Develop in-house processes and templates to improve document development efficiency. 5. Oversee cross-coordination between multiple disciplines contributing to a common construction drawing. 6. Identify, track, and resolve interdisciplinary coordination issues. 7. Perform quality control through reviews and markups. 8. Assist with construction administration activities such as RFIs or submittals. 9. Develop and stamp/sign architectural drawings designed in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND TRAITS
Legally able to work in the United States. At least a bachelor's degree or equivalent in Architecture from a four-year college or university with at least 3+ years of experience in a comparable job or in a related position. Licensed architect in California or working towards licensure as a licensed Architect in California and possibly other states in the future. Experience with local, California, and national Codes and Regulations pertaining to architecture, accessibility, and fire/life-safety. General understanding of flow of construction projects from conception to occupancy. Ability to create AutoCAD drawings, and able to navigate a drawing folder architecture to manage CAD resources, such as common external reference drawings, PDFs, images, etc. Experience with Google Workspace, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel. Ability to work with and understand mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, fractions, percentages, and ratios. And, most importantly, be able to apply them to practical situations during design. Ability to interpret and follow variety of complex instructions and standards in various forms. Can commute and work in the office 5 days a week until provided the opportunity to work from home. Knowledge of the Windows operating system and file structure, for example how to map a network drive, or how to use OpenVPN to connect remotely. Experience with Google Meet, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual meeting software suites. Experience with AI software and prompt development Experience with DraftSight and Revit. We sometimes use these programs to manage 3D models.
