Job Description

Engineering Test Technician Position Overview We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Test Technician to support the build, setup, execution, and troubleshooting of hardware test systems across mechanical, electrical, battery, and powertrain subsystems. This role operates in a fast-paced, development-focused environment and requires strong technical fundamentals, adaptability, and the ability to work with evolving requirements and partial instructions. The technician will play a critical role in prototype development, fixture design, and test execution, working cross-functionally with engineering teams to validate performance, reliability, and safety of complex hardware systems. Key ResponsibilitiesPrototype Build & Assembly + Assemble mechanical and electrical hardware, including prototypes, fixtures, and test systems + Perform soldering, wiring, harnessing, and connector work + Fabricate, modify, and repair components using hand tools and machine shop equipment (mill, lathe, welding as applicable) + Ensure builds align with engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications Test Setup & Execution + Set up, run, monitor, and troubleshoot tests (manual and automated) + Execute test procedures and scripts for battery systems, powertrain components, and ground hardware + Operate and configure test equipment (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermal tools, data acquisition systems) + Support both development testing and validation campaigns Fixture Development & Maintenance + Build, modify, and maintain test fixtures, rigs, and harnesses + Improve test setups to increase reliability, repeatability, and efficiency + Support light fabrication and iterative fixture development Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis + Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures in test systems and hardware under test + Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions + Identify issues during testing and proactively propose solutions Data Collection & Reporting + Document test procedures, results, and observations + Communicate issues, anomalies, and recommendations clearly to engineering teams + Support basic data analysis and test reporting Required QualificationsTechnical Skills + Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems + Proficiency in soldering and wiring + Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings + Experience operating test equipment and running test procedures + Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware systems Experience + Experience in testing, prototyping, or technician roles in hardware environments + Exposure to one or more of the following: + Battery systems or cell testing + Powertrain or rotating equipment (motors, engines, turbines) + Robotics, or electromechanical assemblies Preferred Qualifications + Experience with machine shop tools (mill, lathe) and/or welding + Familiarity with automated testing or scripting environments + Experience with wire harness fabrication and crimping + Exposure to environmental or reliability testing + CAD familiarity (viewing or basic design) + Experience with 3D printing or rapid prototyping + Experience in aerospace, robotics, automotive, or similar industries Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South San Francisco, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
