Job Summary We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Musical Instrument Maintenance Technician & Educational Liaison to join our music store team. This hybrid role is perfect for a self-starting musician or repair enthusiast who wants to combine hands-on technical work with community outreach, and the ability to teach private lessons in-house at our facility as desired, or as a substitute instructor. You will split your time between diagnosing and maintenance repair of instruments in our shop and acting as our primary representative to local school music programs, band directors, and music teachers. No college degree is required . We highly value hands-on experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and excellent interpersonal skills over formal credentials Key Responsibilities 1. Instrument Maintenance & Repair (Technical) Diagnose, clean/adjust/maintenance-repair, and tune a variety of rental fleet and customer instruments, including brass, woodwinds, orchestral strings, or guitars. Perform routine maintenance such as replacing pads, corks, strings, and bridges, as well as fixing stuck valves, aligning keys, and leveling frets. Provide accurate labor and material estimates for customer-owned instruments. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment. Track and log repair tickets, parts inventory, and completed work using our store's computer system. 2. Educational Liaison (Outreach & Customer Service) Act as the primary bridge between our music store and local school music departments, band directors, and private instructors. As needed, Travel to local schools to pick up instruments needing repair and drop off completed jobs or rental fleets. Build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with educators to anticipate their classroom, instrument rental, and sheet music needs. Answer questions from music teachers, parents, and students regarding instrument care, rental setups, and repair statuses. As needed, Represent the store at school rental nights, music festivals, and local educational events.

Qualifications & Skills Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required; no college degree necessary . Completion of a vocational program or an instrument repair apprenticeship is a major plus but not mandatory.

Experience:

Proven experience repairing or maintaining musical instruments (either professionally, through an apprenticeship, or via intensive personal hobby work).

Musical Familiarity:

Ability to play or play-test at least one instrument of each instrument family to evaluate sound quality and pitch accuracy, with a strong understanding of woodwinds in particular.

Technical Skills:

Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with specialized hand tools, precision gauges, and soldering equipment, with ability to safely use and maintain the Ultra-sonic cleaning equipment, Sanitization or Ultraviolet light Sani-equipment we use on-site.

Communication Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to speak confidently and professionally to educators, parents, and students.

Requirements:

A valid driver's license and a clean driving record (essential for school visits and instrument transport). Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs (e.g., heavy instrument cases or amplifiers).
