Fiber Optic Splicer If you can open a live splice case, read an OTDR trace, find the fault, and restore service without someone standing over your shoulder, we want to talk to you. We're looking for an experienced OSP Fiber Optic Splicer who knows the difference between simply operating a fusion splicer and truly understanding the network behind it. This is hands-on field work across aerial and underground fiber networks, including fusion splicing, ring cuts, mid-sheath entries, ribbon splicing, OTDR testing, bucket work, troubleshooting, and emergency restoration. You'll be trusted to solve problems in the field, work directly with NOC teams during outages, and help less-experienced technicians sharpen their skills. This is a role for an experienced technician who can confidently work in live fiber environments, troubleshoot outages, make decisions in the field, and get service restored safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities include:
Perform fusion splicing on OSP, ADSS, and OPGW fiber optic cables Complete fiber terminations, ring cuts, mid-sheath entries, and splice enclosure builds Conduct OTDR, power meter, and fiber identifier testing Troubleshoot signal loss, continuity issues, and network outages Work across aerial and underground fiber optic plant Perform bucket truck work, including lowering slack coils and hanging splice enclosures Install VCBS and BRCS systems Read and accurately follow splice diagrams Work within live splice cases and trays without disrupting existing service Perform ribbon and high-count fiber splicing Assist with emergency callouts and service restoration Communicate directly with NOC teams during bridge calls and outage events Troubleshoot from the site through the backbone Document completed work through Daily Performance Reports (DPRs) Train and mentor lower-level fiber technicians Follow company safety procedures and OSHA requirements Communicate with customers and field teams to resolve issues efficiently What You'll Need 3-5 years of Outside Plant fiber optic fusion splicing and testing experience CFOT certification through the FOA Proficiency with OTDR testing , including taking and reading traces and identifying fault locations Experience with ring cuts, mid-sheath entries, and ribbon splicing Ability to work confidently in a live splice case without causing damage or service outages Experience with emergency restoration calls Ability to work with NOC teams during bridge and restoration calls Experience with aerial and underground fiber construction Strong bucket work skills Ability to splice at least 24 fibers per hour Ability to complete a 48F butt splice within 4 hours Ability to lift 75+ pounds, climb poles, work at heights, and distinguish cable colors Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and clean driving record DOT Medical Card OSHA 30 completion OPGW experience is highly preferred. Schedule & Field Requirements This is a full-time, field-based position . The workday begins around 6:30 AM and ends when the final job for the day is complete. Most days run approximately 8-10 hours , with typical workweeks totaling 45-55 hours . Candidates must be available for an on-call rotation, overtime, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel when needed. This position operates in a DOT-regulated environment.
