Job Description
GutVann Architecture and Consulting is an architecture and engineering firm in Monmouth/Ocean County, New Jersey. We are licensed in roughly 20 states , with a primary focus on healthcare — skilled nursing, post-acute, and senior care — plus a steady commercial portfolio. We are a technical firm, not a design-only shop. The work is real, constrained, occupied-building engineering. We are hiring a Senior Electrical Designer to independently produce power and building electrical systems design across that portfolio. This is a hands-on production role for someone confident enough to take a project from existing conditions all the way through complete construction documents with minimal oversight. What you'll do Design power distribution systems for new and existing buildings — service entrances, feeders, panelboards, branch circuiting, load calculations, and power riser diagrams Design and coordinate emergency and standby power systems, including generator sizing, transfer switches, and emergency power tie-ins for healthcare facilities Produce lighting design and lighting power layouts as needed Develop complete electrical construction documents in Revit, coordinated with our HVAC/plumbing team and architectural staff Perform electrical load calculations and equipment sizing Coordinate electrical scope with mechanical, plumbing, and architectural work in constrained and occupied-facility conditions Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and support construction administration Grow into healthcare fire alarm design and low-voltage/structured wiring scope — training and support provided What we're looking for 6+ years of electrical design experience in a consulting engineering or MEP firm environment Demonstrated ability to independently produce power distribution design for commercial and/or institutional buildings Experience with generator and emergency power systems Working production proficiency in Revit Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) The judgment to run projects independently and escalate only the genuinely complex issues Nice to have, but not required Healthcare facility experience — skilled nursing, hospitals, or medical office Fire alarm design experience (NFPA 72) Familiarity with low-voltage and structured wiring systems Familiarity with NFPA 99 essential electrical systems and
