Lead Mechanical Commissioning Technician Our Vision:

The Lead Mechanical Commissioning Technician is the working lead for mechanical field execution on an active commissioning crew. This role directs the mechanical technician workforce during pre-commissioning, equipment commissioning, and system turnover activities at geothermal facilities. The Lead performs hands-on technical work alongside the crew while holding responsibility for work quality, procedure adherence, and daily execution output. The mechanical scope includes rotating equipment acceptance and run-in, flushing and cleaning verification, shaft alignment, pressure testing, mechanical protective system verification, and condition monitoring baseline collection. Technical acceptance authority for this scope rests with the Asset Integrity Engineer; the Lead Mechanical Commissioning Technician executes and documents against those criteria. This role reports to the Commissioning Manager (CxM). In the current state, the Lead Mechanical Commissioning Technician is facility-anchored for the duration of the active campaign. As the fleet scales and regional commissioning structure matures, fleet-mobile Lead Technician roles will administratively anchor above the facility level, with operational direction continuing to come from the site CxM during each campaign.

Responsibilities:

Crew Direction and Work Execution:

Direct mechanical technicians, contract labor, and O&M personnel assigned to mechanical commissioning scope; assign tasks, set daily priorities, and verify work quality before sign-off Perform hands-on mechanical commissioning work alongside the crew: pre-commissioning inspections, flushing and cleaning, alignment verification, pressure testing, and rotating equipment run-in Coordinate OEM field service representatives during equipment commissioning; maintain visibility of OEM scope and ensure procedures and acceptance requirements are respected Enforce procedure compliance and documentation practices across the mechanical crew; completed work is documented at the time it is done

Rotating Equipment and Mechanical Systems:

Lead shaft alignment activities using laser alignment or dial indicator methods; verify alignment is within specification before coupling installation and record pre- and post-alignment data Direct and participate in equipment run-in: monitor bearing temperatures, vibration levels, seal performance, and operating parameters during initial operation; document results against acceptance criteria Execute and oversee flushing and cleaning programs for piping systems and lubrication circuits; verify cleanliness to the specified standard before sign-off and system progression Execute and oversee hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests; verify test setup, monitor hold periods, and document results Assist the Asset Integrity Engineer in condition monitoring baseline collection: vibration data, lube oil samples, and thermographic baseline as directed

Safety and Site Authority:

Hold and exercise stop-work authority; mechanical commissioning activities that exceed safe work boundaries stop until the condition is resolved Enforce

LOTO/LOTOTO

compliance for all mechanical isolation on energized or pressurized systems Verify that work permits are in place and current before crew members begin work on permitted systems Lead pre-task safety briefings for the mechanical crew at the start of each shift and before high-risk activities

Documentation and Reporting:

Review and verify mechanical commissioning documentation produced by the crew: test records, alignment data sheets, inspection check sheets, and punch list entries Report daily mechanical execution status to the

CxM:

work completed, open items, blockers, and schedule variances Escalate technical issues beyond the crew's resolution authority to the Asset Integrity Engineer promptly; do not improvise on acceptance criteria

Skills and Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

5 or more years of hands-on mechanical commissioning, maintenance, or construction experience in power generation, industrial process, or equivalent complex plant environments, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity Demonstrated experience commissioning rotating equipment: pumps, fans, compressors, and associated mechanical drive systems Hands-on experience with shaft alignment using laser or dial indicator methods; ability to interpret alignment data and direct corrective shimming Experience directing contract labor or mixed-workforce mechanical crews in a field commissioning or maintenance setting Familiarity with pressure testing procedures: hydrostatic and pneumatic test setup, execution, and documentation Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and vendor installation manuals Strong written and verbal communication; daily status reporting to the CxM and crew direction are primary functions of this role

Preferred Qualifications:

Trade certification or journeyman standing in a mechanical discipline: millwright, pipefitter, boilermaker, or equivalent Experience with condition monitoring data collection: vibration, oil analysis, thermography, or ultrasound in a commissioning or reliability context Exposure to geothermal, combined-cycle, ORC-based, or utility-scale power generation facilities Familiarity with rotating equipment mechanical protective systems: vibration trips, high-temperature shutdowns, and associated functional test procedures OSHA 30 construction safety certification Experience working in two-phase fluid systems or high-enthalpy process environments
