Summary We are seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Roanoke, Alabama. This entry-to-junior level role will focus on optimizing passive fiber optic assembly and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will drive efficiency, quality, and scalability in a fast-paced production environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands-on position ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer with direct exposure to fiber optic component assembly (e.g., patch cords, pigtails, high fiber count cables, splitters, connectors, closures, patch panels or related passive fiber products). Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes for passive fiber optic assembly and testing
- Analyze production workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to increase throughput, reduce scrap, and improve first-pass yield
- Support new product introductions and process validation for fiber optic manufacturing lines
- Troubleshoot assembly issues and develop corrective actions using root-cause analysis
- Implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies (5S, Kaizen, DMAIC, etc.) to drive continuous improvement
- Program and support automation and equipment where applicable (Arduino-based controls, CNC, laser systems, 3D printers, test sets etc.)
- Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
- Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure processes meet quality and safety standards
- Utilize CAD/CAM tools for fixture design, layout optimization, and process simulation
- Generate reports and data analysis using MS Office, JMP/Minitab, or similar statistical tools
- Lead/Participate in cost-reduction and efficiency projects Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field
- 0-3 years of hands-on experience in passive fiber optic assembly and manufacturing (internships/co-ops count)
- Strong understanding of fiber optic assembly processes, tolerances, and quality requirements
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and process specifications
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Legal authorization to work in the United States (no sponsorship available)
Pay:
$66,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
