Job Description:
- The Roadway Design Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting the design of roadway improvement projects from concept through construction documents. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in highway design, hands-on experience with OpenRoads Designer (ORD), and a working knowledge of North Carolina standards and processes.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop roadway design plans, profiles, cross-sections, and construction documents for transportation and multi-modal projects Perform horizontal and vertical alignment design, superelevation, and grading using OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Coordinate with utility, drainage, and structural disciplines throughout project development Prepare and review design calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates Ensure compliance with state and/or municipal design standards, policies, and project-specific requirements Collaborate with project managers, clients, and agency stakeholders on project deliverables and schedules Assist in preparation of permits, right-of-way documents, and technical specifications
Requirements Summary:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required. Minimum 5 years of experience in road/transportation design, proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, and strong knowledge of NCDOT design standards and AASHTO guidelines required. Strong communication skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment are also essential.
