This position is ideal for someone with experience in a custom metal fabrication environment who understands how parts are actually manufactured on the shop floor. The right candidate will work with customer drawings, sketches, and models to develop manufacturable sheet metal and welded assemblies. Experience with processes such as laser cutting, forming, welding, and CNC machining is strongly preferred. Responsibilities Create and modify 3D models and fabrication drawings for sheet metal parts and welded assemblies. Review customer drawings, models, and sketches for manufacturability. Interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication requirements. Design parts with practical consideration for laser cutting, forming, welding, machining, and assembly. Work closely with shop personnel to resolve manufacturing and design questions. Make revisions to drawings and models as required. Assist with developing efficient fabrication methods for custom projects. Provide project management support for complex fabrication jobs, including coordinating design requirements, manufacturing steps, timelines, and communication between customers, engineering, purchasing, and production. Help track complex projects from design through fabrication to ensure requirements, schedules, and customer expectations are met. Qualifications Experience working in a custom sheet metal or weldment fabrication environment preferred.
Understanding of fabrication processes including:
Laser cutting Press brake forming Welding CNC machining General metal fabrication and assembly Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and sketches is required . Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software is a plus. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively with both engineering and shop personnel. Ability to work on a variety of custom projects and adapt to changing priorities. Experience Previous engineering or CAD experience is preferred; however, we are willing to train the right candidate who has strong hands-on sheet metal fabrication experience and is interested in moving into a design/engineering role. We are looking for someone who understands fabrication, is willing to learn, and can help turn customer concepts and drawings into parts that can be efficiently manufactured.
