Job Description

CNC Operator Pathway to Design Engineer Germansville, PA 2 DAYS AGO 22866156 Summary Germansville, PA In-Person $26.00 - $28.00 per Hour 18 Months Experience Bachelor's degree No Commission 40.00 hours per week / Day Shift / Full-Time Description Manufacturing Engineer — CNC (Pathway to Design Engineering) A Hands-On Launchpad Into Design Engineering Grothouse | Germansville & Schnecksville, PA |Full-Time, Days M-F | $26-$28/hour Grothouse is a nationally recognized manufacturer of luxury wood surfaces, architectural millwork, custom tables, stair components, and specialty wood products. Our work is found in some of the finest homes and commercial spaces across North America. We stock more than 60 species of wood, and every project is engineered one at a time — this is not production-line work. The Role — Read This First This is a deliberate career pathway, and we'll be straight about how it works. You will spend your first 12-24 months on our manufacturing floor mastering CNC machining of solid wood: programming, setup, tooling, fixturing, and production of one-of-a-kind custom work. When you've achieved mastery, you will train your replacement and move into a design engineering role. How fast that happens depends on you. You will report directly to our Director of Engineering, who will personally train you. Expectations are high and focused on your growth out of this role — we are hiring you for what you'll become, and we expect you to work like it. What You Must Bring Day One Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent. Strong proficiency in Solidworks or comparable 3D parametric CAD, from coursework, co-ops, or personal projects. The ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings from day one. A hands-on disposition: this role lives on the shop floor, not behind a desk. Much of what we build weighs well over 75 lbs — expect physical work, including heavy lifting with and without assistance. Curiosity and drive to master how things are actually made. What Sets You Apart Experience with Mastercam or other CAM/machining software. CNC machining experience — academic, co-op, or hobbyist. Personal projects that show you build things: woodworking, machining, 3D printing, fabrication, restoration. What We Will Teach You Everything about machining solid wood — a material with grain, movement, and character that no metal shop will ever teach you. Our CAM workflows, tooling, fixturing, and engineering systems. And the manufacturing judgment that separates designers who draw parts from designers who understand how parts actually get made. Schedule & Flex Time We run flex time from day one. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday day-shift role, but you set a schedule that works for your life — come in earlier or later, and if you have a doctor's appointment or your kid's game, shift your hours instead of burning time off. We built this policy because we think punishing someone for being three minutes late is a stupid way to run a company. Compensation & Benefits $26-$28/hour, with compensation growth tied to your progression toward the design role. Company-paid retirement contribution: Grothouse contributes 3% of your gross earnings to your 401(k) every pay period, whether or not you contribute a dime of your own. Flex time from day one, as described above. Paid vacation and 8 paid holidays. Employee, friends, and family discounts. How to Apply E-mail your resume to hr@glumber.com. Include your senior/capstone project or a portfolio if you have one — and tell us about something you've built, fixed, or taught yourself outside of class. We read every application.
