Job Description

The Mechanical Draftsman will support our mechanical engineering team in creating, revising, and maintaining high-quality 3D models and 2D drawings in
SOLIDWORKS.
The ideal candidate has strong CAD proficiency, excellent drawing standards knowledge (ASME Y14.x), and the ability to convert legacy PDF drawings into modern, fully defined CAD models and drawings. This is a contract role for up to one year with potential for project-based extensions depending on business needs. Key Responsibilities Create, update, and maintain parametric 3D models and fully detailed 2D drawings in
SOLIDWORKS.
Convert existing legacy PDF drawings into native
SOLIDWORKS
parts, assemblies, and drawings, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Apply and verify Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per
ASME Y14.5
; ensure drawings meet ASME Y14.100 and Y14.24 standards. Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers to translate design concepts, redlines, and markups into production-ready documentation. Set up and manage drawing templates, title blocks, custom properties, and revision tables consistent with company standards. Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ballooning within assembly drawings; ensure part-numbering and configurations adhere to PLM rules. Perform drawing check activities for fit, form, function, tolerances, and manufacturability; incorporate engineering change orders (ECOs). Prepare manufacturing-ready outputs (e.g., PDFs, DXFs for laser/waterjet, STEP/IGES for suppliers) and maintain file hygiene. Support prototype builds by producing detailed exploded views, section views, and assembly instructions as needed. Coordinate with suppliers/fabricators for clarification of drawings and tolerances; update documentation based on feedback. Required Qualifications Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Mechanical Design Technology, or related field 3+ years of professional experience as a mechanical drafter/design drafter using
SOLIDWORKS
in a production environment. Strong command of drafting standards and best practices, including
ASME Y14.5
(GD&T) and related standards. Demonstrated experience converting PDFs or legacy drawings into accurate 3D models and fully defined drawings. Proficiency with
SOLIDWORKS
drawings: views, sections, detailed views, annotations, weld symbols, hole callouts, and notes. Experience with revision control and change management (ECR/ECO). Ability to interpret engineering sketches, redlines, and hand-markups; strong attention to detail and quality. Working knowledge of manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, 3D printing) and associated tolerances. Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
