Job Description

This position supports surveying operations through both fieldwork and technical drafting. This role involves collecting and interpreting spatial data, operating a variety of survey instruments, and assisting with the preparation of accurate drawings and documentation. Candidates will have experience reading maps and engineering drawings, and be comfortable using tools such as total stations, levels, and M-scopes. The candidate will assist with calculations, field sketches, and data analysis, while maintaining effective communication with internal teams and external agencies. Additionally, a strong foundation in written and verbal communication is important, as is a willingness to learn and adapt to new survey and mapping technologies. Required Education/Experience High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of relevant work experience or Associate's Degree Or 2-year technical degree in Civil, Information Technology, Mathematics or related disciplines and 18 months of relevant work experience Licenses and Certifications Driver's License Required Physical Demands Ability to respond to system emergencies Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday Unload materials from delivery vehicles and deliver equipment and materials to various operating facilities Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays Use personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle. Acknowledge that reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure Additional Physical Demands The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Core Responsibilities Ability to read and interpret maps and drawings and be capable of operating various survey instruments (total stations, level, M-scopes, etc.). Competency in the use of MicroStation or Auto-Cad in order to generate various types of drawings. Survey Technicians assist Surveyors with mathematical computations and field sketches. Ability to have strong oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with other departments, including various city and state agencies relative to land records, easement grants, and topographical data. Ability to learn advanced survey and mapping software.
