Competitive Ideal candidate will have experience with boundary involving TVA reservation boundary. Experience working at Gas, Fossil or Nuclear plant sites for construction layout and plant support. Candidates should have experience in terrestrial scanning, registration, design, and the ability to manage laser scanning deliverables. Job Summary Serves as the survey party chief directing the work of a survey crew performing a wide variety of surveys including, but not limited to: transmission line and highway route , boundary, route, geodetic control, GPS, construction, hydrographic, topographic, volumetric, flood study, photo control and deformation. Plans, develops, organizes and directs the work of the survey party including: Selects methods of accomplishing survey and modifies techniques to overcome complex survey conditions. Ensures that all instruments are properly operated, adjusted and maintained. Integrates individual assignments into a comprehensive survey of assigned project. Ensures that all surveys comply with TVA and/or State survey standards. Reviews unusual situations and prepares notes and calculations to ensure product meets quality specifications. Communicates with property owners regarding problems and coordinates resolution. Interprets legal descriptions and makes judgments as to the location of property lines where descriptions and land use may not agree. Performs other duties as assigned. Requires travel inside and outside of the Tennessee Valley. Supervisory Responsibility Directly supervises a survey crew (including contract surveyors) on a daily basis and is responsible for the quality, and compliance with budget and schedule. Provides performance evaluation input for crew personnel. Supervision Received The incumbent works independently while in the field. The incumbent reviews the work for overall completeness and accuracy. The incumbent handles unusual problems in the area of field surveying. Technical advice is available on highly complex assignments. Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific) Demonstrated skilled in surveying methods and use of latest surveying technology and equipment (including GPS). Demonstrated skill to determine best method to achieve the required precision. Demonstrated knowledge of surveyed related mathematics (geometry, trigonometry). Must be proficient at using TVA survey data collection system. Must have knowledge of personal computer and be able to use surveying related software. Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering plans, highway drawings, specifications and land descriptions. Must be able to effectively serve as a team leader and effectively communicate with associates. Knowledge of boundary survey law in the states where surveys are performed, including Public Land Surveys. Demonstrated skill to review CAD drawings and results created by surveying programs for overall completeness and adequacy. Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard) Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements An Associate's degree in Surveying or Civil Technology or comparable field of study or equivalent education, training & experience. Several years' experience in work similar to that of a senior-level survey technician covering a variety of field survey assignments, or registration as a Professional Land Surveyor, with education, training and field experience demonstrating competencies in a variety of related surveying assignments. Incumbent must be medically qualified and capable of working in the field survey conditions while following Power System Operations' Safety Manual standards and procedures at all times. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to safely operate TVA survey vehicles.
