Job Description:
Who We Are:
The Mechanics and Materials section is seeking a Technician to join a dynamic team of highly specialized staff to perform material testing for aerospace, defense, and energy applications. Role:
Assist senior technicians and technical staff in the execution of mechanical testing of materials. Prepare specimens and equipment for testing, monitoring, and documenting information during testing. Assist team with administrative lab tasks including materials inventory, tool calibrations, and shipping and receiving. Assist in the servicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and gas handling equipment. Assist in the installation and wiring of instrumentation.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Test specimen measurement and preparation including dimensional measurements, polishing, and labeling. Use Solidworks to create parts and drawings for specimens and lab hardware. Facilitate and oversee the fabrication of test specimens and lab hardware. Test fixture assembly and modification for test execution. Test frame set-up by installing fixtures, test chambers, instrumentation, and specimens. Data logging and entry by entering data into log sheets and computer files, basic data reduction, and communication of results. General maintenance and repair of lab equipment and hardware including hydraulic systems and chillers. Support operations of high-pressure hydrogen gas test systems.
Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years: Experience with standard mechanical tools and measurement devices such as calipers. 2+: Hands-on skills to assemble test fixtures and mechanical systems using tools and wrenches. Basic computer skills including understanding of Microsoft Excel and Word. Strong communication skills and must be able to understand written/verbal instruction and use email for communication. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:
Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
