Job Summary At Simmonds Precision Products, Inc., we design, manufacture, and support precision aerospace components and systems serving commercial and military aviation customers worldwide. A Repair Station Technician Preforms various levels of repair, rework, overhaul and related operations on aircraft equipment returned from the field. Responsibilities Inspect, repair, modify, and test aircraft components in accordance with FAA regulations, Repair Station Manual requirements, approved technical data, and customer specifications. Performing complete operation evaluation, disassembly, repairs, reassembly, test, diagnoses, and correction of problems. Test and calibrate parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications; repairs as necessary Utilize precision measuring instruments, hand tools, specialized fixtures, and test equipment to support repair and overhaul activities. Ensure all repairs and testing meet established FAA, quality, safety, and airworthiness requirements. Identify, document, and report unserviceable, unsafe, or nonconforming conditions. Support internal audits, customer audits, FAA inspections, and regulatory requirements as needed. Collaborate with inspectors, engineers, supervisors, and other technicians to resolve technical issues and meet production and customer delivery requirements and turnaround times Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S and continuous improvement practices. Participate in technical training and maintain required certifications, qualifications, and repair station authorizations. Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting, fault isolation, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, modification, and functional testing of aerospace components and systems. Diagnose complex electrical and electromechanical discrepancies to the component and circuit level, identifying root causes rather than simply replacing suspected components. Analyze electrical faults using wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, technical manuals, manufacturer maintenance instructions, and other approved technical data. Utilize and interpret readings from digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, insulation resistance testers, hipot equipment, specialized test fixtures, and other electrical/electronic test equipment as applicable. Troubleshoot circuits involving power distribution, switches, relays, sensors, motors, actuators, connectors, wiring, and other electrical and electromechanical devices. Perform continuity, resistance, voltage, current, insulation, and functional testing to verify component performance and isolate discrepancies. Develop logical troubleshooting approaches for intermittent, complex, and difficult-to-reproduce electrical failures. Identify trends, recurring failures, and unusual component conditions and communicate findings to engineering, quality, and supervisory personnel. Accurately document troubleshooting steps, test results, defects, corrective actions, and final test results in work orders and maintenance records. Determine when additional technical support, engineering assistance, or approved data is required to complete a repair. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic, or electromechanical systems, preferably in an aerospace, aviation, industrial, military, or similar technical environment. Ability to independently interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, technical manuals, and troubleshooting procedures. Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, including voltage, current, resistance, continuity, grounding, short circuits, open circuits, and circuit protection. Demonstrated ability to use electrical test equipment and interpret test results to isolate faults. Ability to apply a systematic, root-cause approach to electrical troubleshooting rather than relying solely on component replacement. Ability to diagnose complex or intermittent electrical discrepancies and determine appropriate corrective action. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn aerospace repair and overhaul processes. Ability to read and follow technical instructions, manuals, repair station procedures, and FAA regulations Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic documentation systems. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work independently and within a team-oriented environment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a fast-paced production and repair environment. Ability to pass and maintain internal and FAA training requirements. Ability to work in a fast-paced production and repair environment while maintaining accuracy and documentation requirements. Experience diagnosing intermittent electrical faults, wiring discrepancies, connector problems, relay/switch failures, sensor faults, and power distribution issues. Experience interpreting complex aerospace wiring diagrams, schematics, pinouts, and electrical test procedures. Aviation maintenance, avionics, electronics, electrical, or electromechanical training or certification. Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement practices. Experience working with FAA-approved technical data and repair documentation. Preferred Qualifications Valid FAA Repairman Certificate. Previous experience working in a FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment. Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, insulation resistance testers, hipot testers, specialized test equipment, and electrical test fixtures. Technical school, vocational training, military technical training, or coursework in aviation maintenance, electronics, electrical systems, avionics, or a related field. What Success Looks Like Success in this role means being a lead Technician responsible for the inspection, advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, modification, and testing of aerospace components and systems in an FAA-regulated repair station environment. Being able to develop an effective troubleshooting strategy to perform the necessary electrical testing, isolate the root cause, complete the repair, and validate the component through appropriate functional testing. Training and mentoring less experienced Techs to build depth and strengthen the organization. Work Environment This position operates in an FAA-regulated repair station environment and may involve exposure to loud noise, moving machinery, chemicals, and aircraft fluids. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. The position may require standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive motion throughout the shift.
