Job Description

This is an open and continuous recruitment which will remain open for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days and close without notice once a sufficient pool of highly-qualified candidates has been created. First Review of Applicants will take place July 14, 2026 The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill three (3) vacancy for the classification of Utility Services Engineering Intern (Part-Time) in the Department of Utilities. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year. Under direct supervision, performs work of routine difficulty designed to provide hands-on learning experience related to the Infrastructure Planning, Infrastructure Support, and Project Delivery sections in the Engineering Services Division of the City's Utility Services Department; and performs related duties as assigned. The selected individual will rotate though each of the three sections below receiving diverse learning experience related to engineering within the water, wastewater, and reclaimed water field. We're looking for a team player who is willing to learn and has the desire to impact our community. Infrastructure Planning The Infrastructure Planning Section is responsible for the short and long range planning of the water and wastewater services for the City of Henderson. We perform detailed hydraulic analysis of our system to solve complex engineering problems. Our New Development team is responsible for plan and permit reviews of civil and building plans. We make sure new development and infrastructure is in compliance with HMC, NRS, UDACS, DCSWCS and other applicable codes. Infrastructure Support The Infrastructure Support Section is responsible for design review as well as maintenance engineering and operational support for the water, wastewater, and reclaimed water services for the City of Henderson. We perform condition assessments and forecast rehabilitation and renewal events needed for Department of Utility Services infrastructure. This information is documented in Asset Management Plans and used to create and prioritize projects that are added and managed in our Capital Improvement Program. Project Delivery The Project Delivery Section is responsible for the delivery of capital improvement projects (CIP) for water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems which includes engineering and construction management resources. The team manages delivery of CIP projects including monitoring project funding, expenditure accounting, engineering design, construction management, strategic alignment, procurement of consultants, and project coordination with the public and other agencies.

Graduation from high school or equivalent Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university program with a major in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a closely related field Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483

Experience with AutoCAD and/or
GIS Software Desirable:
Possess a valid Engineer Intern (EI) Certification
