Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Job Summary:
The EPC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for projects across engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phases. This role involves analyzing project requirements, evaluating materials, labor, and equipment costs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that estimates meet project objectives. The EPC Estimator will work closely with engineering, procurement, and construction departments to prepare competitive bids and support project planning and budgeting.Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation:
Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for EPC projects, covering all phases including engineering, procurement, and construction. Evaluate project requirements to determine materials, labor, and equipment costs. Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to assess scope and estimate work. Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare detailed cost breakdowns.Bid Preparation:
Assist in preparing and submitting detailed bids and proposals. Work with project management and engineering teams to define scope, identify project risks, and determine contingencies. Perform bid reviews to ensure estimates align with company standards, accuracy, and competitiveness.Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
Solicit pricing and quotes from vendors and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements. Assess subcontractor capabilities and qualifications to support cost-effective project execution.Cost Analysis & Optimization:
Analyze historical data and perform benchmarking to refine cost estimates. Identify areas for potential cost savings and optimize estimates without compromising quality or safety. Monitor market trends in materials, equipment, and labor to keep cost data up-to-date.Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with project stakeholders, including engineers, procurement specialists, and project managers, to align estimates with project objectives. Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and partners to clarify project details, address issues, and provide insight into cost estimations. Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as necessary.Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of estimates, including assumptions, calculations, and pricing data. Prepare and present reports on estimation activities, risks, and cost forecasts to senior management. Update estimating databases and systems to reflect current industry standards and company data.Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field.Experience:
Minimum of [X] years of experience as an Estimator, with a focus on EPC projects in [relevant industries, e.g., oil and gas, power, infrastructure].Technical Skills:
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS, ProEst, or equivalent). Strong knowledge of construction costs, materials, and labor pricing. Familiarity with engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards.Analytical Skills:
Excellent numerical and analytical skills; detail-oriented with a strong ability to assess costs and risks.Communication Skills:
Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex cost factors to diverse stakeholders.Problem-solving:
Ability to work independently and proactively to resolve issues and optimize costs.Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or similar are advantageous. Experience with complex or large-scale EPC projects. Knowledge of relevant regulatory and safety standards.Working Conditions:
