We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our team on a Contract basis in Muncie, Indiana. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting cycles, and ensuring accounting activity aligns with established controls and compliance standards. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in manufacturing accounting, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Oversee general ledger activity and maintain accurate financial records by reviewing transactions and confirming proper accounting treatment. Prepare and record journal entries while supporting timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Reconcile balance sheet accounts and sub-ledgers, including payables, receivables, payroll, inventory, and banking activity. Produce periodic financial statements and management reports that support business planning and operational decision-making. Investigate variances and transaction discrepancies, then resolve issues to preserve the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Strengthen compliance by applying internal controls, following accounting standards, and maintaining organized supporting documentation. Partner with internal and external auditors by supplying schedules, explanations, and requested records during audit engagements. Complete required tax-related and government reporting in accordance with applicable regulations and filing deadlines. Contribute to accounting process improvements, policy updates, and system-related enhancements that increase efficiency and reporting accuracy. Provide analytical support and day-to-day guidance to accounting colleagues and management on financial matters as needed. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. At least 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within automotive manufacturing or another high-volume production setting. Solid understanding of GAAP, internal control practices, and financial reporting principles. Hands-on experience with ERP. Advanced Excel capabilities, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and financial reporting tools. Proven experience with journal entries, general ledger management, account reconciliations, and month-end close. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively. Familiarity with government reporting requirements, tax filings, and manufacturing cost accounting is preferred.
