Job Description

SUMMARY:
The MPSC Accountant is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all MPSC program financial reports and budget amendments. This position will assist the Finance Director and the emPower Division Director with monitoring grant expenses and preparing tracking reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include (with other duties as assigned) the following:
MPSC Accounting:
Understands and implements the terms and requirements of the MPSC Grant and acts as an advocate for rural low-income residents confronted with an energy crisis Works with the MPSC grant team in the implementation of policies and procedures to reconcile emPower program expenses at least monthly to the Financial Edge general ledger, ensuring: o Grant funds are spent in accordance with grant guidelines. o Expenses are charged to the correct income source. o Appropriate documentation supports expenses. o Required grant documentation reconciles to the general ledger at least monthly, including direct assistance, payroll, accounts payable, mileage/travel, and miscellaneous cash ledgers for both the current month as well as year-to-date. o Adjustments/journal entries are made when appropriate. Identifies and reports quality control issues in data entry that affect TrueNorth's ability to report accurately to funders to the Finance Director. Cross-matches support documents and spreadsheets for accuracy and completeness before sending them to funders. Assists the Finance Director with the implementation of policies and procedures that ensure the collection of documents and spreadsheets needed for the completion of all financial reports. Assists the Finance Director with timely and accurate financial reporting to MPSC, Consumers Energy, DTE, and other agencies as required. Reports include payment files, client lists, expense reports, monthly financial status reports, monthly service statistics, interim project reports, and final project reports. Assists management in the budgeting process by compiling information for budget projections, agency annual budgets, and grant proposals. Monitors grant spending compared to the budget to ensure that budget amendments are submitted to MPSC or other funders per grant guidelines. Balances all emPower department income sources with Financial Edge software. Maintains knowledge of the entire emPower financial records and reporting process. Works with other staff members to ensure cross-training and department functions are efficient. Supports Payroll Accountant as needed.
General position responsibilities:

Recommends and/or implements technology upgrades or system improvements that will optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort Attends staff meetings. Regular and consistent attendance. Other duties as assigned.

Ability to problem-solve and provide appropriate solutions Possess and demonstrate skill and experience in effectively coordinating multiple projects with short deadlines Ability to work with a variety of systems, agencies, data, and individuals while exhibiting excellent communication skills Ability to maintain records and prepare verbal and written reports Ability to gather, collate, and/or classify data, and Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, employees, and consumers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in accounting and/or a minimum of 2 years' experience working in an accounting-related field with a minimum of 1 year of grant experience. Advanced Excel skills are required.
EOE Pay:
$40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
