Job Description

Eutaw Construction is an equal opportunity employer who offers excellent pay and benefits that include participation in our 401K Plan, participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan, health insurance coverage, etc. Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Accountant to join our team supporting heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for accurate job cost accounting, project financial reporting, billing, and compliance across large-scale infrastructure work including highways, bridges, earthwork, utilities, and related heavy civil scopes. The Project Accountant partners closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and the corporate accounting team to ensure timely, accurate financial visibility and control on active projects. Key Responsibilities Maintain complete and accurate job cost records for assigned heavy civil projects, including tracking of labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and overhead. Prepare and review monthly project cost reports, cost-to-complete forecasts, and variance analyses; flag issues and support corrective actions with project teams. Process and review project billings (progress billings, unit-price, lump-sum, T&M, and change orders) in accordance with contract terms and owner requirements. Reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, retention, and intercompany transactions related to projects. Support change order accounting, claim documentation, and cost recovery processes. Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, contract requirements, prevailing wage rules (where applicable), and audit standards. Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, journal entries, and project reconciliations. Coordinate with Project Managers on budget setup, cost coding, and ongoing financial performance reviews. Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external audits, bonding, and lender reporting as needed. Maintain organized digital and physical project financial files. Contribute to continuous improvement of job-costing processes, systems, and reporting tools. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. Proficiency with construction accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Solid knowledge of GAAP and construction contract accounting principles. High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced project environment. Excellent communication skills and ability to partner effectively with field and project management teams. Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity. Preferred Qualifications Experience with heavy civil, highway, bridge, or large infrastructure projects. Familiarity with prevailing wage, certified payroll, or public-works contracting requirements. Experience with ERP systems and data analytics tools. 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or heavy civil/infrastructure. Strong understanding of construction job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project billing methods.
