Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Accountant to oversee financial operations, multi-year grant budgeting, and contract compliance for a leading regional social services organization. This role serves as a key financial partner to operational leaders, ensuring robust fund management, accurate fiscal reporting, and strategic budget alignment across multiple programs and regional initiatives. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in non-profit fund accounting, proactive budget variance analysis, and thorough knowledge of federal, state, and foundation grant regulations.
Qualifications & Experience Non-Profit Accounting Background:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a proven track record in non-profit, social service, or healthcare environments.
Technical Standards:
Deep knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), fund accounting, and government contract/grant regulations.
Budget Oversight Skills:
Demonstrated experience managing multi-million-dollar program budgets and navigating complex funder restrictions.
Core Competencies:
High level of precision, analytical capability, and great written and verbal communication skills needed to translate financial data for non-finance program leaders.
Software Proficiency:
Hands-on experience with modern ERP/fund accounting software systems and advanced Excel capabilities.
salary:
$65,000 - $72,000 per year shift: First work hours: 8 AM - 4 PM education:
Bachelors Responsibilities Grant & Program Budget Development:
Collaborate directly with program directors to construct, refine, and monitor complex, multi-source operating and grant budgets.
Re-Budgeting & Variance Monitoring:
Lead regular budget-to-actual variance reviews; prepare formal re-budgeting requests and budget modifications for agency and funder approval when operational needs shift.
Cost Center Analysis:
Audit general ledger activity to guarantee proper cost allocation across program-specific cost centers, sub-cost centers, and matching/cost-sharing accounts.
Billing & Revenue Oversight:
Oversee accounts receivable for regional contracts; prepare, verify, and submit accurate, timely monthly billing statements to funding bodies.
Receivables & Aging:
Actively manage aging reports and liaise with funding agencies to ensure prompt reimbursement and healthy cash flow.
Audit & Documentation Readiness:
Maintain complete, audit-ready fiscal files for all active grants, including agreements, expense tracking, matching documentation, and correspondence.
Month-End & Year-End Close:
Prepare and enter comprehensive month-end journal entries, including accruals, payroll distributions, inter-company transfers, petty cash, and debt service schedules.
