Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, degreed Accountant to manage the financial operations of our real estate assets. This on-site position will be responsible for managing and overseeing all financial transactions related to real estate holdings, including current multi-use residential and commercial properties, property acquisitions and sales and development projects. The Accountant will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, prepare financial statements, assist with budgeting and driving overall profitability for the real estate portfolio. The position requires a strong accounting background, excellent analytical skills and an understanding of real estate industry practices and regulations. Previous experience in reorganization, or start-up, of accounting best practices and systems, required. Key responsibilities include maintaining general ledgers, timely reconciling of accounts, processing accounts payable and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, as well as tracking capital expenditures, managing escrow accounts, and ensuring compliance with tax laws and reporting requirements. Collaboration with property managers and external auditors will be essential to ensure all financial data is accurate and up to date. The Accountant will also play a crucial role in identifying opportunities for process improvements, conducting variance analyses and supporting audits. Must have the ability to interpret complex financial data and strategically assist leadership in making informed financial decisions to contribute to the financial success of the operations, as the property assets change and grow.
Job Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain accurate financial records for real estate holdings and transactions. Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports. Reconcile operating accounts, bank accounts and general ledgers. Process accounts payable and oversee receivables related to properties. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Assist with budgeting and variance analysis. Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulatory requirements. Coordinate with property managers, as needed. Support internal and external audits. Track capital expenditures. Identify and implement process improvements. Monitor cash flow and company profitability. Coordinate with CPA for tax preparation and year-end reporting. Analyze portfolio performance. Establish financial controls and internal accounting procedures. Assist ownership with financial strategies. Support strategic growth initiatives and business planning. Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information. Perform other accounting and administrative duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate, property management, or commercial investments. Strong knowledge of GAAP and practices. Proficiency with AppFolio, QuickBooks, or similar accounting software. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Proven ability in reorganization, or initial start-up, of accounting systems for a small business. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Impeccable sense of integrity and professionalism. Skills Knowledge of general ledger accounting. Financial statements preparation. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong Excel skills, including formulas and spreadsheets. Ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Effective verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate all financial information clearly to ownership and management. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Experience:
Previous hands-on accounting experience required. General ledger management. Experience with bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliation. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, accounting software, accounts payable and receivable. Experience working with confidential financial information. Financial analysis and budgeting. Tax compliance. Interpretation of financial data and strategic decision making. Experience in real estate, property management, or a related industry, with AppFolio expertise, a plus.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Schedule:
Part-time 20 hours per week; days and times
TBD Benefits:
Sick and Personal time off, prorated for part-time hours Holiday pay, if a paid holiday falls on a normal workday
Work Location:
Akron, Ohio in person and local travel, as needed; potential for Hybrid Office environment
