Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Finance Department and play a key role in maintaining the financial health and integrity of our nonprofit organization. Position Summary The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the organization's full-cycle accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and effective financial reporting. This role will support executive leadership by providing financial analysis, budget oversight, audit coordination, and strategic recommendations for financial management. The ideal candidate will possess strong nonprofit accounting experience, exceptional organizational skills, and expertise in financial systems and reporting. Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Management Manage full-cycle accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. Record and maintain accurate financial data in QuickBooks, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, revenues, and expenses. Prepare and post journal entries. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and maintain reconciliation procedures. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Develop variance reports and provide financial analysis and forecasting. Create and maintain financial dashboards and reporting tools. Budgeting & Strategic Financial Planning Develop, monitor, and analyze annual operating budgets. Identify budget variances and provide recommendations for corrective actions. Support strategic financial planning and organizational decision-making. Fund Accounting & Compliance Oversee restricted and unrestricted fund accounting. Ensure proper allocation of funds and compliance with donor and grant requirements. Manage external grants and contract reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, Form 990 reporting requirements, and applicable nonprofit financial regulations. Preparation and filing of Form 990, BCO-10, and BCO-23 tax filings is preferred. Payroll & Reporting Oversee bi-weekly payroll processing. Prepare and present monthly and annual financial reports to Executive Leadership and the Board of Directors. Respond to financial inquiries in a professional and timely manner. Audit & Internal Controls Lead annual audit preparation and coordination with external auditors. Analyze, document, and improve internal controls to reduce risk and strengthen financial accuracy. Make recommendations regarding financial policies, procedures, and best practices. Additional Duties Perform other related duties as assigned. QualificationsRequired Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience. Minimum of 5 years of QuickBooks experience. Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and nonprofit accounting. Preferred Qualifications Experience preparing IRS Form 990 and Pennsylvania charitable organization filings (BCO-10 and BCO-23). Experience with nonprofit grant accounting and contract management. Knowledge of Pennsylvania 6100 and 52 regulations. CPA designation is a plus. Required Skills & Competencies Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Advanced proficiency with:
QuickBooks ADP Payroll PROMISe Billing System Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build effective relationships with leadership, staff, auditors, government agencies, funding sources, and community partners. Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) services and current industry practices is preferred. Working Conditions Office-based position Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday Standard work hours: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Occasional schedule flexibility may be required during audits, month-end close, year-end reporting, and key financial deadlines. Pay:
$60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
