Type:

full-time G&S Foods is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join our Accounting team. Reporting to the CFO, this position will maintain and improve our cost accounting systems, analyze manufacturing variances, and provide meaningful financial insights that support operational efficiency and margin improvement. The ideal candidate has strong manufacturing cost-accounting experience, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to translate detailed financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for finance and operations leaders. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain product costs, standard cost roll-forwards, and month-end cost-accounting schedules. Analyze actual-to-standard cost variances, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Prepare inventory reconciliations, journal entries, and other month-end closing schedules. Calculate product costs and analyze bills of materials, routings, labor absorption, and overhead allocations. Monitor and report purchase price variances. Maintain cost master data in the ERP system and ensure data integrity. Support budgeting, forecasting, margin analysis, and financial planning. Partner with Production, Procurement, and R D to identify cost drivers and improvement opportunities. Evaluate labor and overhead allocation methods and help identify ways to reduce waste and cost volatility. Prepare management reports that highlight cost trends, risks, and opportunities. Present findings and recommendations to senior finance and operational leaders. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end audits by preparing schedules and audit documentation. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited four-year institution. At least five years of cost-accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Strong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation. Experience working with ERP systems; experience with MRP modules is a plus. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data-analysis tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping. Ability to communicate financial and technical information clearly to non-financial stakeholders. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position works in both office and manufacturing/warehouse environments. Regular walking through production and warehouse areas is required. The facility includes moving machinery, loud equipment, bright lighting, periodic alarms, and areas that may be warm, climate controlled, or occasionally wet due to sanitation. Employees must follow all food-safety requirements and wear required protective equipment, including hairnets and beard nets when applicable. The position also requires prolonged computer work, occasional stair climbing, and the ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
