We are looking for a detail-oriented Sales & Use Tax Accountant to support a Remote Contract assignment focused on multistate sales tax compliance with a growing company. This role will help strengthen the accuracy and organization of tax records by reviewing documentation, confirming account details, and identifying gaps that require follow-up. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with sales and use tax processes and is comfortable working through large volumes of data with precision.

Responsibilities:

Examine multistate sales tax files to verify registrations, account details, EIN information, and related records are accurate and current. Evaluate resale and exemption certificates, flagging documents that are expired, incomplete, or missing and coordinating corrective action. Research state-specific compliance requirements and ensure supporting tax documentation is properly maintained for each jurisdiction. Check sales tax filings, reporting records, account information, and applied rates to confirm completeness and accuracy. Investigate inconsistencies between internal tax records, state account data, and supporting documentation to resolve discrepancies. Maintain organized tracking logs that monitor the status of registrations, certificates, filings, and outstanding follow-up items. Support data cleanup efforts by standardizing documentation and improving record accessibility across multiple states. Experience working with sales tax and use tax compliance activities in a corporate or accounting environment. Knowledge of multistate tax documentation, including registrations, exemption certificates, and related account records. Ability to identify record discrepancies and perform research to resolve tax-related data issues. Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage high-volume document review accurately. Proficiency with spreadsheets and tracking tools used to monitor compliance status and outstanding items. Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating updates and documenting findings.
