Position:
Under general supervision, performs specialized technical expertise and detailed accounting work required to support complex County functions; maintains County financial accounts and records and assists in the preparation of financial reports and analyses; provides responsible technical and clerical accounting support to professional staff; and performs related work as required.Required Knowledge of:
Terminology and practices of financial and accounting document processing and record keeping, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing.Skills in:
Maintaining, auditing, verifying, and reconciling a variety of accounts, reports, journals, budgets, or related fiscal or statistical data; summarizing and posting data as required. Processing claims, invoices, purchase orders, payments, contracts, and bids, including maintaining complete and accurate records, auditing progress payments, and preparing the appropriate correspondence. Balancing financial information system controls; balancing and posting cash receipts, payments, and registers; and balancing various other statistical and financial transactions with source documents and controls. Preparing and maintaining computerized financial spreadsheets on a personal computer for ledgers and statistical records; preparing reports summarizing information and financial records.Ability to:
Perform detailed accounting and financial office support work accurately and in a timely manner. Learn prescribed formulas for calculation and reconciliation of assigned functions. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, AND four (4) years of increasingly responsible accounting experience, preferably with a government agency. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.License & Special Requirements:
A valid California Class C driver's license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The department is currently recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Accounting Specialist, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.Tentative Interview Dates:
1st- Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 9:00am to 11:00am. 2nd- Tuesday, August 18, 2026 from 9:00am to 11:00am. •Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to interview. New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
