PT Accounting Associate -

Primary Description:
The part time Accounting Associate - Accounts Payable supports the Senior Accountant in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with audit and regulatory requirements, and providing timely financial information to leadership. This role focuses on accounts payable, vendor management, reconciliations, and other routine accounting tasks. The Accounting Associate will partner with ministry leaders, staff, and vendors to ensure smooth financial operations that support the mission and vision of the church.

Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of the full accounting cycle, with an emphasis on accounts payable in a nonprofit/church environment.
  • Proficient in accounting software and data entry, with the ability to record entries accurately into the general ledger.
  • Ability to analyze invoices, process check requests and resolve discrepancies promptly and professionally.
  • Competent in reconciling credit cards, travel advances, and store credit accounts, ensuring compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Skilled in preparing weekly and monthly financial reports for review by the Finance Director and Senior Accountant.
  • Maintain organized and accurate vendor records, ensuring proper documentation for 1099 contractors and year-end reporting.
  • Coordinate weekly check runs and ensure proper review, approval, and distribution of disbursements.
  • Oversee the archiving and retrieval of financial files in compliance with audit standards.
  • Support daily cash audits and reconciliation for the Bookstore and other church ministries.
  • Ensure dual control procedures are followed for money handling and deposits.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, ministry leaders, and staff regarding financial processes and inquiries.
  • Provide training and support for disbursement procedures and other finance-related processes.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Accountant and Finance Director to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently while welcoming collaboration.
  • Discreet and trustworthy, maintaining confidentiality in all financial and personnel matters.
  • Relationally astute, able to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and grace, following biblical principles of conflict resolution.
  • Committed to supporting the church's mission, vision, and ministries through excellent financial stewardship.

Experience:
5 years in office environment which includes accounting duties and analysis, and spreadsheet creation and maintenance, nonprofit experience preferred.
    Educational:
    Bachelor's degree in accounting or business management or experience equivalent.
      System/Software:
      o Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). o Experienced with QuickBooks, ACS and other church financial systems. o Experienced with non-profit accounting, fund accounting and GAAP principles.

      From $21.00 per hour
