This position is responsible for actively managing outstanding insurance accounts, resolving unpaid and underpaid claims, and ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement for services provided. The ideal candidate is organized, persistent, detail-oriented, and experienced in working directly with insurance companies to resolve outstanding medical claims. Responsibilities Work insurance A/R accounts to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement Review A/R aging reports and prioritize outstanding claims for follow-up Follow up with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed-care payers regarding unpaid or underpaid claims Research claim status through payer portals, clearinghouses, and direct payer communication Identify and resolve claim denials, rejections, payment discrepancies, and processing delays Correct claims and submit reconsiderations or appeals when appropriate Review EOBs and ERAs to determine the reason for nonpayment or underpayment Identify contractual underpayments and pursue additional reimbursement when appropriate Verify that payments, adjustments, and contractual allowances are applied correctly Work accounts requiring additional documentation, corrected claims, medical records, or payer follow-up Document all account activity and follow-up actions clearly in the practice management system Maintain consistent follow-up on outstanding balances until resolution Identify recurring denial or payment trends and communicate issues to management Collaborate with billing, authorization, front-office, clinical, and administrative staff to resolve revenue-cycle issues Assist with additional billing and revenue-cycle responsibilities as needed Qualifications Previous medical accounts receivable, insurance follow-up, or medical billing experience required Strong understanding of medical insurance claims and reimbursement Experience researching and resolving denied, rejected, and unpaid claims Knowledge of EOBs, ERAs, CPT/ICD-10 coding concepts, modifiers, and payer guidelines Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans preferred Ability to navigate payer websites and online claim portals Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to independently manage a high volume of outstanding accounts Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong problem-solving skills and ability to take ownership of accounts through resolution Experience with surgical or specialty medical billing is strongly preferred What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who does more than simply check claim status. The successful candidate will be proactive in identifying why a claim has not been paid, determining the appropriate next step, and following the account through to resolution . The right candidate will be dependable, accountable, efficient, and comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty medical practice.
