Job Description

Job Summary The Municipality of Limerick is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Bookkeeper to join the Finance/Treasurer's Office. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank accounts, assisting with payroll and financial reporting, and providing general accounting support to municipal operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively with municipal officials, employees, vendors, and members of the public. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain accurate municipal financial and accounting records. Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoices, payments, and deposits. Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations. Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and supporting documentation. Assist with payroll processing and related records. Prepare routine financial reports and accounting summaries. Assist with annual budget preparation and monitoring. Maintain vendor and customer records. Reconcile cash receipts and municipal accounts. Assist the Treasurer/Finance Director with audits and year-end financial procedures. Ensure financial transactions are properly documented and recorded. Maintain confidentiality of financial and personnel information. Respond professionally to inquiries from residents, vendors, employees, and municipal officials. Perform other related duties as assigned. Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of bookkeeping, accounting, or closely related experience. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to maintain accurate and organized financial records. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Preferred:
Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Experience working for a municipality, governmental agency, or public-sector organization. Experience with municipal accounting software and/or payroll systems. Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting. Physical and Other Requirements The position requires regular computer use, telephone communication, filing, and occasional lifting of office materials weighing up to [25] pounds. The employee must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment.
