POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced accounting professional to join our Client Services team as a CFO. This is a senior-level individual contributor and team lead role. The title reflects the level of expertise and advisory value you will deliver to a dedicated portfolio of business clients who are counting on us as their outsourced financial leadership. Come help us grow our team and help support clients as their businesses grow! You will own a book of business end to end: reviewing monthly financials produced by Client Managers on your team, preparing and reviewing tax returns, providing proactive tax planning and financial advisory services, and serving as the senior point of contact for high-level client matters. You will also directly supervise one or more Client Managers and play a key role in their professional development. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Review & Monthly Close Review monthly close work product completed by Client Managers for accuracy and quality Ensure management reports are issued to clients by the 20th of each month Verify payroll reconciliations tie to the general ledger for all assigned clients Review sales tax filings for accuracy; oversee timely filing Prepare and present S-Corp owner payroll calculations for year end reasonable compensation purposes Tax Planning & Return Preparation Prepare and/or review federal and state income tax returns for assigned business and individual clients Conduct proactive, year-round tax planning
  • not just end-of-year estimates Communicate tax estimates, strategies, and results directly to clients Coordinate with the Tax Director on complex filings and multi-entity planning situations Stay current on tax law changes affecting the assigned client base Client Relationship Management Serve as the primary senior contact for high-level client questions, escalations, and advisory conversations Build strong, trust-based relationships with business owners•show up with insights, not just reports Lead periodic client meetings to review financial performance and advisory recommendations Manage client expectations around scope, timelines, and deliverables Team Supervision & Development Directly supervise one or more Client Managers; provide day-to-day guidance, feedback, and mentorship Monitor Client Manager workload, Canopy project status, and engagement progress across the shared portfolio Provide technical direction and help develop the professional judgment of the CMs on your team Escalate performance concerns or recurring workflow issues to firm leadership as appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS CPA
license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation
  • preferred but will consider highly experienced professionals without designation Minimum 4-6 years of experience in public accounting, including tax preparation and financial statement review Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships independently and professionally Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading junior accounting staff Proficiency with QuickBooks Online; comfort with practice management software (Canopy or similar) Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines simultaneously Strong written and verbal communication skills•especially with non-accountant business owners Experience working with clients in the construction, real estate, or manufacturing industries Familiarity with Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS or similar professional tax software Experience with ADP RUN, Ramp, Onvio, SharePoint, or similar firm tools Multi-entity or complex structure experience (S-Corps, partnerships, real estate entities, holding companies)
