PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT
The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $57.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.
RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY
Processes and adjusts property and casualty claims involving district vehicles, facilities, and other assets by investigating losses, determining liability, and setting reserves. Manages claims in RMIS, maintaining documentation and providing updates to stakeholders. Coordinates repairs and pursues subrogation and recovery from third parties. Supports timely claim resolution, property restoration, and cost control for the District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Investigate, inspect, interview, gather technical and legal data, and evaluate all aspects of claims to assess potential claim exposure and set claim reserves accordingly. Use the risk management information system (RMIS) to manage claim status, progress notes, and action plans. Leverage system capabilities to provide automated notifications where appropriate and to conduct analysis on trends and areas of focus. Perform claims adjustment in a collaborative and responsive manner, ensuring that internal and external stakeholders receive regular updates and communication that help them understand the process and potential outcomes. Collaborate with facilities, building management, and schools on repairs for property damage losses. Partner with transportation services and drivers on auto accidents involving district vehicles to ensure repairs are completed timely. Document updates regarding estimated costs and timelines of repairs as well as actual progress. Pursue subrogation, restitution, and recoveries. Provide cost information to D.A. and police for determination of criminal charges to be filed. Follow up with appropriate parties to recover monies from third party insurance companies and to ensure compliance with court ordered restitution. Evaluate need for and assign social media checks, physical surveillance, SIU involvement, etc. Assess claims for need of defense counsel involvement. Manage and provide strategic guidance to defense counsel. Negotiate settlement with claimants and claimant attorneys for mutually agreeable resolutions. Generate payment of claims through issuance of checks, journal entries, and purchase orders. Provide detailed reports with regular updates to supervisor regarding major claims. Lead claim reviews on a regular basis to ensure best path forward is in place. Retain and maintain working knowledge of District's insurance policies; federal, state, and local laws related to insurance claims; District policies; and employee contracts and agreements by obtaining and reading periodicals and state legislature acts. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE
Three years of experience in general liability, auto, and/or property claims handling. Two years of experience working with public entities preferred.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
High School degree required. Post-secondary insurance related courses or an Associate's Degree or higher preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS
None required. ARM (Associate in Risk Management), ARM-P (Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of property and casualty insurance principles, including liability, coverage determination, subrogation, and claims settlement practices. Knowledge of District insurance policies and basic legal concepts related to tort liability, third-party responsibility, and recovery of damages. Knowledge of standard procedures for investigating property damage, vehicle accidents, and facility-related losses, including documentation and reporting requirements. Knowledge of Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS) for claim entry, tracking, documentation, and reporting. Skilled in conducting basic investigations, including gathering facts, inspecting damage, interviewing involved parties, and collecting supporting documentation. Skilled in evaluating claim exposure, setting reserves within authority limits, and monitoring claim status and progress. Skilled in coordinating property repairs, vehicle damage claims, and vendor communications to ensure timely and accurate claim resolution. Skilled in communicating clearly and professionally with internal departments, external claimants, insurance carriers, contractors, and other stakeholders. Ability to analyze claim information and identify issues requiring escalation. Ability to manage multiple claims while maintaining accuracy, organization, and compliance with established procedures and timelines. Ability to maintain accurate electronic claim files and ensure confidentiality of sensitive financial, legal, and incident-related information.
