Job Description
Position Summary The US Customs Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all U.S. Customs compliance activities related to import and export operations. This position ensures the company remains compliant with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, tariff requirements, entry procedures, and applicable international trade laws. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee all U.S. Customs compliance activities for import and export shipments. Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, federal import/export requirements, and company policies. Maintain advanced knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and ensure accurate tariff classification of products. Review and manage all types of customs entries , including formal entries, informal entries, in-bond entries, temporary importations, warehouse entries, FTZ-related entries, and other applicable entry types. Review customs documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and supporting documentation. Ensure accurate classification, valuation, country of origin, duties, taxes, and fees for imported merchandise. Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, CBP, and internal departments to resolve customs and compliance issues. Monitor customs entries for accuracy and identify potential discrepancies, penalties, or compliance risks. Manage post-entry corrections, protests, amendments, reconciliations, and duty adjustments when applicable. Ensure proper recordkeeping and retention of import/export documentation in accordance with CBP requirements. Conduct internal customs compliance audits and implement corrective and preventive actions. Monitor changes to U.S. Customs regulations, tariffs, trade agreements, and other government requirements. Provide guidance and training to employees regarding customs compliance, classification, documentation, and import/export procedures. Develop and maintain customs compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls. Partner with Operations, Logistics, Purchasing, Finance, and Legal teams to ensure compliant and efficient international trade operations. Investigate customs discrepancies and develop solutions to prevent recurring issues. Support CBP audits, customs inquiries, examinations, and regulatory investigations. Monitor duty and tariff exposure and identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining full compliance. Maintain strong relationships with customs brokers and other trade service providers. Required Qualifications Extensive knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and CBP requirements. Strong working knowledge of HTS classification, tariffs, duties, valuation, and country-of-origin requirements. Proven experience with all types of customs entries and entry processes. Experience working directly with customs brokers and CBP. Strong knowledge of import/export documentation and customs procedures. Experience conducting customs compliance audits and resolving entry discrepancies. Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced international trade environment. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) and customs entry systems. Experience with Free Trade Agreements and special trade programs. Experience with FTZ, bonded warehouse, drawback, reconciliation, and other customs programs. Knowledge of U.S.-Mexico cross-border trade and maquiladora operations is highly preferred. Experience managing or supervising customs compliance teams. Work Environment This position operates in a fast-paced logistics and international trade environment and requires frequent communication with internal teams, customs brokers, carriers, customers, and government agencies. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to make sound compliance decisions while supporting efficient supply chain operations.
