OBJECTIVE
: Supervises the processing of records and maintains the record of financial transactions for the Sumner County School District in an accurate and timely basis. Directly supervises the Financial Accounting and Reporting process and requirements of the district. Assists Chief Financial Officer in the management of the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department. Manage month end and year end close processes. Manages yearly audits and various financial reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages month end and year end processes to ensure timely and accurate close and reporting. Prepares audit reports, financial statements, document processes, and create various reports as required by audit. Provide direct oversight of staff and accounting processes to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and policies.
- Prepares journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis as required. Reviews journal entries and reconciliations of staff. Verifies, allocates, and posts details of transactions to subsidiary accounts from appropriate source documents.
- Coordinate all activities associated with annual external audit of District Funds and respond to questions/findings/comments of auditors.
- Prepares and review all required County, State reports including monthly and annual Financial Statements (Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, Statement of Revenue and Expenditures, and cash flow) for District.
- Review special audits as directed by the CFO.
- Keeps up-to-date and advises Chief Financial Officer on all changes in reporting and financial standards and record keeping. Keep up-to-date on all GASB Standards. Advise and manage implementation of accounting changes.
- Projects cash flow and maintains appropriate cash balances. Works directly with County Trustee to maintain accurate cash account balances.
- Reconciles and balances accounts as required.
- Compiles reports to show statistics, such as receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and other items pertinent to the financial operation of the district. Provides reports to others in the district that have budgetary responsibility.
- Assists the Chief Financial Officer in the administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
- Forecasts and analysis of revenue and expenditures to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
- Provides to and receives from the administration advice regarding the operation of the job.

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Advanced financial accounting and reporting knowledge and experience required
- Governmental Accounting experience preferred
- Advanced Excel including vlookups, pivot tables, and other analysis formulas required
- Management experience preferred
- Good verbal and written communication
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises finance staff, analysts, and other employees, processes, and departments as assigned. Provides technical advice and training to others in the district that do same, similar and related work.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Build positive working relationships with each department and individual schools in the district as well as with auditors, accountants, regulators and various local, state and federal government officials.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university. Specific emphasis in accounting or equivalent experience required. Audit, Financial Accounting, and Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in School systems or governmental accounting preferred.
- CPA or CCFO preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules and guidelines, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively one-on-one (or a small group) to students, parents, community groups, or other employees of the district.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to do basic algebra and statistical analysis. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPA, CCFO, CGMA, CMFO, CIA
certificate or Master's Degree preferred.
- Willingness to pursue CCFO specialty designation (if not already attained) preferred.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- The ability to operate a computer utilizing software provided by the district.
- Ability to do advanced excel formulas and functions such as V lookups and pivot tables.
Tyler-Munis, (or associated product) software preferred, Timekeeping system experience preferred.

$95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
