Job Summary Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee (OPMT) is seeking a dependable, adaptable, and patient-focused Floating Optician to support our optical teams across multiple office locations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, works well independently, and can confidently step into different office environments as staffing and business needs change. The Floating Optician will provide consistent optical support and exceptional patient care while traveling between assigned OPMT locations. Because this is a floating position, reliable transportation and the ability to travel between office locations are essential requirements of the role. As a floating optician, The ideal candidate is personable, professional, sales-minded, organized, and comfortable building rapport with patients while helping them find eyewear that meets their prescription, lifestyle, and budget needs. Responsibilities Travel between assigned OPMT office locations based on staffing and operational needs Assist patients in selecting frames based on fit, style, prescription, lifestyle, and individual needs Educate patients on lens materials, treatments, upgrades, and available eyewear options Review and interpret eyeglass prescriptions Take accurate optical measurements necessary for eyewear orders Accurately enter, process, and track eyewear orders Verify completed eyewear for prescription accuracy and quality Properly fit, adjust, repair, and dispense eyewear Troubleshoot patient concerns related to fit, comfort, vision, or eyewear performance Explain vision insurance benefits, patient responsibility, available promotions, and payment expectations clearly and accurately Provide a welcoming, professional, and consistent patient experience at every location Maintain accurate documentation and follow established optical procedures and company policies Support optical sales goals while prioritizing appropriate recommendations and patient needs Maintain organized and presentable optical displays and work areas Communicate effectively with office staff, leadership, laboratories, and other OPMT locations regarding patient orders and concerns Adapt quickly to different office workflows, patient volumes, and staffing needs Assist with additional optical responsibilities as needed to support the team Compensation & Incentives In addition to competitive base compensation, this position offers additional earning opportunities and support associated with the floating role, including: Travel stipend to help compensate for travel between assigned OPMT locations Monthly bonus opportunities based on optical sales production and achievement of established performance goals Opportunities to earn additional sales incentives and spiffs on qualifying optical products, promotions, or performance initiatives Ongoing opportunities to increase earnings through strong individual and/or departmental optical performance Specific incentive opportunities may vary based on current programs, eligibility requirements, and performance goals. Qualifications Previous optician or optical retail experience is preferred Experience with frame selection, optical measurements, adjustments, dispensing, and eyewear troubleshooting is a plus Knowledge of vision insurance plans and optical benefits is preferred Strong customer service and communication skills Comfortable discussing eyewear options and making recommendations to patients Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Dependable, organized, and able to manage responsibilities independently Flexible and able to adapt to different teams, locations, and daily priorities Professional attitude and appearance Comfortable learning new systems, procedures, products, and optical terminology Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between assigned office locations are required What We're Looking For A successful Floating Optician is someone who can walk into any of our locations and provide the same level of professionalism, patient care, and optical support our patients expect from OPMT.
