This is not a routine AP position . We are looking for someone who can think beyond data entry, understand how transactions affect the overall accounting picture, identify problems, and take ownership of getting things done correctly. Our company has multiple entities with significant intercompany transactions, shared services, allocations, journal entries and complex AP activity . Invoices must be properly coded not only to the correct GL account, but also to the appropriate company, class, department, location and other accounting dimensions. What You Will Do Oversee the daily AP function and the employees currently responsible for AP. Review AP for accuracy, proper coding and timely completion. Oversee weekly checks, ACH and other vendor payments. Learn and understand our multi-entity and intercompany accounting structure. Train, mentor and hold AP employees accountable for accurate and efficient work. Evaluate performance and participate in hiring, training and personnel decisions when necessary. Serve as backup for AP and be willing to jump in and do the work when needed. Identify errors, inconsistencies and process problems and determine how they should be corrected. Work closely with the Controller and gradually assume responsibility for additional accounting functions, including: Maintaining fixed asset records Setting up Notes Payable and generating and maintaining amortization schedules Monitor and reconcile Payroll Tax & Employee Benefits accounts Monitoring daily cash balances Maintaining various accounting schedules and reconciliations Assisting with accounting projects and analysis Review incoming mail and correspondence and ensure it reaches the appropriate person, including the Controller, CFO, CEO, HR, owners and outside tax professionals. What We Are Looking For The right person will be: An accounting thinker, not simply a data-entry person. Detail-oriented without losing sight of the big picture. Fast, organized and able to work in a demanding environment. Comfortable learning a complicated multi-entity accounting structure. Experienced with AP and strong in GL coding and accounting fundamentals. Comfortable with intercompany transactions and allocations. A problem solver who asks questions when something doesn't make sense. Able to work independently and make sound decisions. Comfortable supervising, mentoring and holding others accountable. Comfortable having difficult conversations when performance issues need to be addressed. Someone who takes ownership and follows through rather than waiting to be told what to do. Qualifications 5+ years of accounting experience preferred. Strong AP experience required. Supervisory or team-lead experience strongly preferred. Multi-entity and intercompany accounting experience is a significant plus. Strong understanding of debits, credits, GL coding and financial statement impact. Strong Excel and accounting software skills. NetSuite experience is a plus.
