•4:30 PM Position Summary The Loss Mitigation Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting loss mitigation applications for delinquent mortgage accounts. This includes analyzing borrower financial information and supporting documentation in accordance with investor guidelines and National Servicing Standards to determine appropriate solutions. This role requires strong analytical skills, risk assessment, and decision-making using investor waterfalls and guidelines to mitigate potential losses. The underwriter works with various investor systems, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, and ensures timely, accurate processing of loan workouts while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. Essential Functions Gather and review supporting documentation to create complete loan workout packages within required timelines. Evaluate loss mitigation options including forbearance, repayment plans, partial claims, deferrals, and loan modifications. Analyze borrower financial statements to determine appropriate resolutions. Assess risk and make decisions using investor waterfalls and guidelines. Collaborate with investors to determine borrower retention eligibility. Perform compliant file reviews according to investor and servicing standards. Use investor systems to obtain workout results. Coordinate with internal departments and external agencies on loan status updates. Maintain and manage a loan-level portfolio while meeting deadlines. Evaluate borrower income and expenses to determine repayment ability. Follow up on outstanding conditions to ensure timely decisions. Order appraisals and ensure delivery of valuation notices to homeowners. Request title work including date downs, endorsements, and subordination documentation. Prepare and verify income/expense calculations. Enter and upload documentation into internal systems. Ensure adherence to information security policies. Support internal and external audits. Participate in process improvement initiatives. Communicate effectively with management and escalate issues when needed. Stay updated on industry regulations and recommend procedural updates. Maintain accurate records in internal and investor systems. Run waterfall calculations to determine final workout solutions. Assist with documentation updates such as procedures and job aids. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of mortgage servicing experience At least 1 year of loss mitigation experience preferred
Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA mortgage processes and guidelines Familiarity with CFPB, FCRA, FDCPA, and regulatory compliance standards Strong analytical and decision-making skills Solid understanding of underwriting and loss mitigation processes High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment Intermediate math skills Experience with document systems (e.g., Blitzdoc / ICE preferred) 10-key proficiency preferred Bilingual skills are a plus Required Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational and time management abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and cloud-based tools Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
