JOB SUMMARY
Provides clerical and administrative support across multiple functions, with a primary focus on payroll processing, and benefits administration. This role ensures accurate data entry, supports compliance, and helps maintain smooth payroll operations across a geographically dispersed workforce. This is a developmental position designed to build core HR and payroll competencies, with growth opportunities within the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Support Assist with processing payroll, including data entry for hours, earnings, and deductions Review payroll information for accuracy and flag discrepancies for resolution Maintain payroll records and ensure proper documentation Support payroll reporting and help prepare information for audits and tax filings Benefits Administration Support Assist with benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations as needed Maintain benefits records and update employee information in HR systems as needed Respond to basic employee questions regarding benefits and eligibility as needed Support open enrollment and related communications as needed Compliance & Data Integrity Ensure confidentiality of employee information Follow established policies and procedures Support compliance with employment laws and organizational standards through accurate recordkeeping
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position based in Anchorage, Alaska with the option for in-person, hybrid or remote work. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or hours vary with location. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Occasional extended hours may be required during peak periods such as month-end close.
TRAVEL:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED EDUCATION
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprints. High school diploma or equivalent 1-2 years of administrative, clerical, or customer service experience Strong attention to detail and accuracy Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality High attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance. Employees are expected to remain alert, attentive, and fully engaged in their responsibilities during all working hours. Sleeping while on duty is strictly prohibited. Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignments with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member. Demonstrated intermediate level of computer skills necessary to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, workshop materials and slide presentations, and to enter data into intricate database programs and proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook. Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations. Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree or coursework in HR, Accounting, or Business preferred Experience with payroll, benefits, or HR administrative support Familiarity with HRIS or payroll systems Experience with Sage Intacct and Sage People is highly valued. Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources or Accounting
