Job Description

The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant payroll administration as part of a collaborative two-person payroll department at Sutherland Lumber Company's corporate office near the Plaza. Sutherland's is a privately held company established before 1920, with a long history of successfully operating retail home improvement stores and other businesses throughout the Midwest. This hands-on role supports the full payroll cycle for approximately 1,000 employees in multi-states, entities and locations. The successful candidate will also play an important role in the organization's transition from its current in-house payroll system to using Paycor as its payroll processor. Responsibilities Process multi-state payroll for approximately 1,000 employees across multiple entities and locations. Review timekeeping, earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, benefit deductions, reimbursements, and other payroll inputs for accuracy and completeness. Audit payroll results, reconcile variances, and coordinate corrections before payroll is finalized each pay period. Respond promptly and professionally to employee and manager questions regarding pay, deductions, taxes, and payroll procedures. Handle wage withholding orders and garnishments in accordance with applicable requirements. Process federal, state, and local payroll tax payments and file required monthly and quarterly returns. Support year-end processing, W-2s, and other required payroll reporting. Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, journal-entry support, and documentation for Finance, Human Resources, auditors, and leadership. Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by safeguarding confidential information. Research payroll issues, identify practical solutions, and communicate resolutions clearly. Maintain an efficient, organized workspace. Stay current on applicable federal, state, and local wage-and-hour and payroll requirements. Provide backup coverage for the Payroll Manager and help maintain uninterrupted payroll operations. Qualifications 3+ years of payroll-processing experience. Experience using Paycor would be a plus. Strong mathematical and analytical aptitude, with the ability to research issues and identify solutions. Working knowledge of payroll practices, payroll taxes, wage-and-hour requirements, deductions, garnishments, and recordkeeping. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and communicate clearly with employees at all levels. Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative department and provide dependable backup coverage. Bachelor's Degree - Accounting or Business Administration preferred. Accounting or Business Administration preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Good verbal and written communication skills. Positive, professional, responsible, and reliable.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
